So I have a 1.21 GB AVi

Postby OzzieAlThor79 » Sun Feb 04, 2007 2:42 pm

I am using WMM 2 (yeah I know. It makes me sad too.)

I have TMPGE.

Problem: I want to get this to something under 100 mb so I can put it on the site and the only options that allow that are MPEG-1 and the size ratio is to small since I have gotten everything to be 640 x 480 and then WMM resizes it in the AVI to 720 x 480. My footage looks pretty damn decent (which it should with a file that size) and I'm not looking to shrink it to the 352 x whatever size they are offering.

Am I helpable or am I screwed?

use vdubmod to compress your file with divx 5 compatible xvid
although very bad for editing, xvid is very good for your final encode

Does this give me an opportunity to get my file the same size under 100mb's?

Because if it does I thank you.

it is very possible, yes.
x.264 is even better, but that requires a little know-how to use effectively

I appreciate it.

I'll update this later when I have some progress.

Ok, so I have been testing my footage, making sure that everything will look right before I start really editing.

I noticed that there is a slight bit of fuzz in a few (but not all) of my Utena clips on the far right hand side.

My idea is to just crop it off once the entire video is done. As I understand it, I need to run my DV-AVI through VDM to get a master HuffyAVI anyway before compression. Is that crazy or not?

Also, accoring to the WMM part of the guide I'll need to re Deinterlace my footage. Won't that screw up my video quality compression even more?

Don't just crop off a chunk on the right side. You want your video to have proper dimensions. If the fuzz is bothering you, run some AviSynth (or just use VirtualDubMod's plugins, if you don't want to write any AviSynth scripts) cleaning scripts. I would do this before you edit, but you can do it after...I'm assuming you've read this part of EADFAG?

Correct, I did. Thing is, I did that with ALL my footage to begin with before compressing.

I have scripts for all 3 anime I was using and ripped them using said script.

Do I need to run through and do it again to my "fnished" video then?

Also, another reason I want to "crop" my footage a bit is because my Utena footage has slighty different borders then my RahXephon footage. My Eva footage fits both pretty well... it's my Utena footage where the black borders on the right seem to jump a bit dpending on the scene.

Post a screenshot of the Utena footage and of the RahXephon footage, and include the pixel dimensions of each.

Screenshots. Got it. Won't be up for about 10-12 hours (as it is 7:45 A.M. here and I'm at work. Won't be off till 5 P.M. ish --O.T. FTW! -- and home with the kids settled will take me till 7 P.M. ish. But I'll get'em up.

Ready for the noob question?

"Pixel Demensions"? You mean Screen Ratio? ( I don't think you do, hence the need for the question).

Ok, to be clear, these are things that show up after I run a video through WMM and creat the AVI file mentioned in the title of this thread.

These graphic blips are not there in my HuffyAVI files. They only happen after I try to actually save a video through WMM.

If you look above the guy in the red shirt, you can see a "shredder type" series of bumps on the upper right hand side of him. Trust me, that's on that whole clip.

Another thing that shows up on OTHER clips:

It should be obvious the right side of this video has a bunch of discolouration, and funky ness.

I have Eva and RahXephon footage that seems to come out right. The Utena stuff is my issue.

Again, should I clip this video to remove these issues?

Or should I just go with the WMV and be happy till I can get a REAL video editing program?

And <i>that's</i> dot crawl. Considering this is RGU we're talking about, I can't say I'm surprised.
You shouldn't lose anything by cropping a few pixels off that side; just make sure you keep your width in multiples of 16.

I don't see discoloration, but I do see macroblocking. Rapidly changing action lines like that do have a tendency to cause macroblocking.
