PAL DVDs from hell

Post by Greggus1 » Tue Jan 23, 2007 4:56 pm

PAL DVDs. Interlaced footage. Mac. No Final Cut. Doomed?

Is good quality possible to achieve, and if so, how? Thank you.

Dude AVISYNTH to the rescue. Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides will get you stared anyway
I'm (unfortunately) living in PAL land... didn't think you were too but eh shows what i know.
vdub is supposed to have a smart deinterlacer built into it... I don't have it but I'm sure there's a link for the plugin somewhere (someone gave it to me)... I prefer to deinterlace using avisynth anyway since it gives me more control over the different functions.

Now I don't have a mac, so can you use vdub/avisynth on a mac?
new banzors in the making :p

As it was pointed out in an earlier thread that Darwine isn't ready/capable of running VDubMod or AviSynth yet, then the only thing I would suggest in regards to those programs is something that truly emulates Windows, probably by virtue of VirtualPC (does VMWare work on OS X? If so, that's a possibility too). Of course, that actually requires having access to (and a license to use) Windows itself.

xilisoft platnium has a deinterlace function built into it, i think you can get a mac version it rips with pretty good quality too.

You haven't seen this site yet? http://www.ishtori.net/

It's a wonderful guide!

There is a program DVDxDV which will do the reverse telecine. Another great program is http://www.squared5.com

I know some people who edit PAL footage with iMovie, with great results. (I also use PAL, with Final Cut.)
