ASF files are not suppported

Post by BlaCk_PeArL_27 » Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:27 pm

Just last night I open this

Code: Select all

Directshowsource("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Onegai\001.nvc")
in vdub/mod but it seems I can't open the file btw... this is wat it say
(in Vdub error) ASF files are not supported.

Vdubmod error:

Not supported: Microsoft owns US patent #6,041,345 on the ASF, preventing third-party applications from extracting data from ASF file.
ASF file format support was remove as of V1.3d at the request of Microsoft and to avoid patent infringement claims, and such VirtualDub no longer support ASF. Please do not ask for version that do.
So my question is why can not be?
To me I think it found the file but other than explanation what the virtualdub said. My clips is not infringement :? I can say.

microsoft doesn't want you to be able to edit those. thats all. has nothing to do with the content in your files (how would it know, anyways? :/ )

if you REALLY need it, go back to a previous version from before they removed it.

I'm a bit confused. VDub can't open asf files directly, but via AVISynth and DirectShowSource it should work, because VDub only gets the decoded frames and doesn't recognize that it is asf. And the decoding is done by the M$ DirectShow filter, so no copyright infringement happens.
