Problem with ripping/playing certain Bandai DVDs

Postby Heero_Yuy84 » Tue Jan 16, 2007 3:42 pm

OK. This initially came up because I was trying to rip a DVD for a video yesterday, but I've also noticed it happening with some other discs as well.

It seems, for some reason, certain Bandai DVDs don't seem to want to run in my comp (and, from asking around, I'm not the only one who's had these problems before)

So far I've spotted it on at least 3 DVDs (Escaflowne vols 5 and 6, and Zeta Gundam Vol 4)
The first ep will play just fine, but any attepts to play anything after that will either bump you back to the main menu or just shut off the player entirely.

Similarly, attempts to rip any footage from this area have had no luck (DVD Decrypter crashes at 1% and DVDMPeG will be able to read the VOBs, but the image is a garbled mess.)

Does anyone know what this is about? and to that end, if there's anything that can be done for it?

Which version of Escaflowne do you have? I know that the Anime Legends set that was released last year had these issues and a disc exchange program was implemented. Did these DVDs playback fine before?

It was the AnimeLegends set, and I did get the discs replaced by Bandai.
The kicker is, the discs play just fine in a regular DVD player. For some reason, they just don't run in my computer.

Also, asking around, seems the Zeta disc is another recurring problem (it runs fine in a DVD player and some computers, but for some reason, it just won't play in others...)

If you've got Nero, try using the Image Recorder function to just make a pure copy of the disc. If it lets you do that, then use Daemon Tools to mount the .nrg file and follow with DVD Decrypter.
