'Skipping' errors with MPEG Streamclip

Postby TheJadeArcAngel » Mon Jan 08, 2007 7:11 am

Here's the situation.

I am useing my FMA V.1 DVD. I use MacTheRipper, I do 'full extraction'. I locate the .VOB files and with VLC, I make sure of which ones I want, etc...

I open up the first VOB file and MPEG S informs me there are time-code breaks and asks if I want it to fix them. I say "OKAY", it finds over 7(?) and then says "Done!"

When I play the video the first few moments are jittery, jarring, and not at all in-sync. Then it seems every chapter thats the opening/closeing are like this, and sometimes the starting of the episodes themselves. If I convert these scenes they come out as previewed - jittery, wacky looking, and un-usable

I think it's just the FMA DVD because I tried with an Ah! My Goddess DVD and it worked fine and dandy.

Any ideas/suggestion?

your computer may just not be capable of handling the vob files in it's media player.
give it a shot on vlc player (theres a mac version). if that doesn't work, try seeing how it does when you scrub your footage in your editing program

~_~ No, I've re-ripped it and said "Okay, maaaabye it's just that DVD" so I ripped DVD 13. Same problems. And, honnestly, it's not horrible since these 'snags' seem to be short-lived but ... still ... f they occur during a moment I really need that could be problematic

Still, i can use the "long-way-around" method to get the footage but if there's a way to figure out why these .VOB files are laggy, I guess I'd rather do that?

: p Oh well ....

when it prompts you to fix it, try hitting "no"

No change X_X. Seems the start and end of every 'chapter' is whats wacky-tobacky and then in a few cases, 2-3 minutes in are sketchy then things go great

Nope. X_X The only other thing I can think of might be abother VOB ripper for Mac? So far 2 other diffrent DVD's ( AH! My Goddess and Trinity Blood ) both work fine, its just FMA that is weird and perhaps thats only because of a conflict with MTR?

The reason for your troubles with the Fullmetal Alchemist DVDs is because of the alternate angles present on the disc. FYI, quite a few of the Funimation DVDs use alternate angles for showing either the English credits when playing the English language audio track(s) or the original Japanese credits when playing the Japanese audio track(s). This also happens with the Studio Ghibli DVDs released by Buena Vista/Disney.

Solving this problem involves ripping just one angle from the DVD(s). I'm not familiar with MacTheRipper, so I don't know how to select which angle to rip. But if it is like DVD Decrypter, you'll have to rip an individual title or chapter, not the whole DVD.

^.^ THANKIES! That seems reasonable considering its the opening and closeings that are problems. I also found Trinity Blood had the same errors after all, hence, because of the Funimation attachment.

M'Kay, I'll give the individual .VOB approach a try!

._.''' well, after much hair pulling I've tried a simple 'main title' extraction off Trinity B and, sure enough, it works fine.

Thanks all for the help! <3
