Postby Bebop0083 » Mon Nov 27, 2006 1:04 pm

well im having trouble trying to compress my audio using xvid codec. i go to select the audio format and it wont allow me to compress it as Mpeg-3 like it normally does. it keeps saying "no format supported" under attributes. does any one know how to fix this? thanks in advance.

your a bit confused - you dont convert audio with the xvid codec.i would recommend that you read the guides provided on this site, especially this one for thourouh explanation on what to do

If you can't be bothered - do you have the Lame MP3 codec installed on your PC?

First, install LAME and see if that fixes it.

If it doesn't, then take the file that contains the audio you're trying to compress and open it in VirtualDubMod. Select File Information... from the File menu and tell us what it says under "Audio stream".

You can also encode the audio in Virtualdub (without using besweet) if you get the LAME ACM codec.

well i downloaded the lame codec but i cant figure out how to install it. i clicked the .exe of it and a black box pops up then disappears. and the dll file i believe its called doesnt seem to be working either. i tried lookng up guides on how to install but cant seem to get to work. apparently when i go to encode in vdub and chose the xvid codec i cant select the mp3 audio codec option either.

So, what does VirtualDub give for information on the audio stream (see the second half of my last post)?

I don't have LAME...but from your description it sounds like the .exe has a CLI instead of a GUI

That's exactly right - the .exe is a CLI interface, although it and the .dll can be used as the MP3 encoder for GUI-based programs like dBPowerAMP.

Installing the ACM codec (if it's not included in a general installation program - doesn't AMVapp come with it? I can't remember) is a matter of right-clicking on the .inf file and choosing 'Install'.

ok i downloaded the Lame ACM codec and it appeared in vdub and i was able to choose the Lame MP3 codec option. is there to get that to work in vegas or am i just going to have to make an uncompressed vid then send it over to vdub or some thing in order to compress the audio?

That is the best solution.

By the way, MP3 does not stand for "MPEG-3" but for "MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3".

apparently i answered my own question. the Lame ACM codec seems to have fixed things although now i can encode the audio in Lame MP3 instead of the regular MPEG-layer 3 option that i ususaly encode in. i thik the lame ACM codec fixed things.
