Zarxrax, need your expertese ...

Post by post-it » Thu May 03, 2012 9:19 pm

Zarxrax
. this question relates to the OLD RAW AVI files of Windows
3.1x through Windows XP:
1) Many video editors used to operate with .avi files.
Asymetrix, MGI ( now Roxi ), Ulead, AiST ( now Magix ) and
even Avid. There was also a free line editor Virtual Dub 1.2
.. .. ? which format was their RAW video avi and why can we
not create "those" avi's today? ( VFW1.1e too )
2) Of the Full-Codec's today, Huffy seems to be causing me
some problems saying, "non standard RAW" (( yup, related ))
3) Virtual Dub NAB no longer functions under Windows 7 32 bit!??
...
My background is Audio. Video is just a hobby to me and it looks
like it no longer wants to do what I need it to!
. Where did things change and is the old standard dead?
Spoiler :
. I won't be able to respond with feedback, the board removed that .
keep Hatter out of this; I need to know the truth from a trusted source.

Not sure why you need ME for this, but there are a few important questions you are missing.
What exactly are you trying to do? What software are you using?
Unless you are trying to run something from 15+ years ago, I doubt you really need an "old" avi.

Virtualdub does have an option to "save old format avi". I believe they can not exceed 2gb.
As far as RAW, I believe that is referring to UNCOMPRESSED footage. And in addition, you may need some specific colorspace.

mfw this thread and your confusing of me with Mad_Hatter. That old AVI stuff was uncompressed RGB bitmaps in RIFF. There are multiple versions of AVI supported in vdub, however they are all of the new variety but with different headers and whatnot. The "old" AVI is as mentioned above.
