Help with compression

I am completely new at amv making, and I need help compressing my video. I have spent over 3 hours searching this site for help, but I haven't found anything that works. When I use Sony vegas 10 to render to mpeg, the result is a file that's 210MB, and this site requires the file to be under 100mb.

Am I doing something wrong, or is Sony Vegas really bad at compressing an MPEG-2? Should I use a different video format, and if so, which one? I plan on entering the video in contests, which is why I'm trying to use MPEG-2

Vegas isn't bad at compression, MPEG-2 is.

Output the video uncompressed. Lossless codec like lagarith or uT.
Then use Zarx264gui to make it MP4. High quality, low size.

I rendered it as a "video for windows" (.AVI), which was an HD (720x1280) 13GB file. This file won't play on my computer with windows media player, but it works on VLC (I think that means I'm missing codecs). When I tried to load this file with Zarx264gui, it wouldn't load (I got an error message every time I tried). I was able to load the MPEG-2 file, which resulted in a 45MB file under the name "Naruto vs Pain.mpg-zarx264gui.mp4".

I would like to use a lossless input to have better quality, by as I said, I have no idea how

Install one or both, try rendering it using those. They will also create very large output files of course.

Mpeg 2 is not a codec you should be using if you are making AMVs with it, you should use UT or Lagarith codec with AVi which will for sure give u a large file size however you can reduce the file size by about 10 times with thte program VirtualDub. It keeps about 99% of the quality of your AMV
