Anyway, I fear the issue might be hardware side... does it have issues when you're just trying to play the DVD too or is the issue exclusive to the actual ripping?

I know on my system at least I needed to change the way it connects to the disc (atapi vs everything else.) Might not be the cause of your problem but then again, it could be. You said there was no error message but there always will be unless you have a hardware problem. It should be in the log window.
