A bit Clueless on Ripping

Ok so i dont know where to start with this, its been ages since i ripped anything and i dotn remember the process.

Im using DVDdecrypter and DGindex ( are these two good for ripping, which should i be using ?).
All i remeber is i first use DVDdecrypter which generates a vob file correct? and then what? what do i do with DGindex, how do u use DVDdecrypter and DGindex together and then how do you load this vob file into Virtualdub or VirtualDubMod you have to do this last step via avisynth right?.

so lost here, just how do you do everything from ripping to loading the footage in Vdub to prepare your editing sections, which part involves avisynth and which lines of avisynth code do i have to use?
