AMVapp Vs K-lite Codec Pack

Postby TriGGiT » Thu Nov 18, 2010 6:52 pm

Now when it comes to codecs wich is a more complete package, i am seeing K-lite Codec Pack as a pretty solid option right now compared to what the AMVapp offers.
what your opinion, i guessing we have to install both to take full advantage right since there are thing the k-lite codec pack doenst have such as teh lagarith codec which is is essential for editing uncompressed.

whats your say on this matter?

k-lite is a plague, and should be killed. It's gotten better, but it has a bad history of including duplicate codecs and being nigh impossible to remove. Installing multiple codec packs is just asking for trouble. If ffdshow doesn't decode lagarith, then go out and install lagarith.

If you want to install a good codec pack, try CCCP: http://www.cccp-project.net/
It comes with a decent player, Media Player Classic - Home Cinema.

With that and a few other codecs (namely Lagarith, HuffYUV, and UTVideo), you should be all set to watch just about anything.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who will recommend this exact solution. I would certainly stay away from K-Lite as well.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to add that you should see if CCCP works for both Lagarith and HuffYUV before you install those seperately. I doubt it has UTVideo built in, but since the release is from last month, might as well try it first.

You can get UTVideo here if needed: http://umezawa.dyndns.info/wordpress/?p=1770 (click the "x86" link).

And just a little more information, if you plan to edit using lossless clips, I highly recommend UTVideo. Compression is almost as good as lagarith, but way faster and also a lot better than HuffYUV.

Yup. That's pretty much what I do. :amv:

WHY HASN'T ANYONE YELLED ABOUT HOW YOU SHOULD ALL USE DIVX7 TO DECODE AVC YET? Although MainConcept's 10bit AVC decoder is p sweet when it actually works.
