Nice to see everyone missed the point again! The deal with PAR is that if you DON'T RESIZE, then you can use the PAR. Otherwise, you should always set your PAR to 1:1 for simplicity and calculate a DAR and use that at display time. This is the best way to do it. The only reason you leave PAR non-square if you don't resize is that it simply preserves more of your original picture. When you crop, you change the DAR, and when you resize, you change the PAR. If you do both, set your PAR to square and use a DAR and avoid confusion. The reason you see so many incorrect PARs ofc is that amvers usually tend to follow ancient guides an end up doing it wrong, because 99% of people on this forum don't inherently understand exactly what it is they're doing.
