Looking for shocking deaths in anime [spoilers]

A couple that come to mind:

Cher Degre from Wolf's Rain, or pretty much any main character from Wolf's Rain (though I mentioned her's since it happened so abruptly it was kind of a shock and she technically died helping someone else)

Saya Minatsuki from Black Cat since a lot of people who have seen that series were really unhappy that she died.

Ah man got some good ones so far. You know I thought of Hughes but I dont have FMA on DVD and neither do any of my friends, so I might not be able to put him in the video. I totally agree with Brandon from Gungrave, thats how I felt after watching it. I thought of the deaths in shows like Wolfs Rain, and Jin-roh, but I'm looking for more of specific deaths that grabbed you rather than main characters dieing one after the other. I heard Black Cat was good but I havent watched it yet, so I'll have to check out Saya Minatsuki.

Wolfwood in Trigun (I swear I nearly gave up watching the rest of the series, but I kept hoping it was one of those tricks and he'd come back at the end.).

This was a shocker for me because we find out she had died at the end of the previous episode and it's her spirit appearing in the final episode. Kantaro doesn't want to send her spirit away at first, and she doesn't leave until things are resolved between Haruka and Kantaro, and she can say goodbye.
