Oh come on. Zoids is cool. ^.^ I think many people are too afraid to make an AMV because it'll probably end up like a DBZ AMV. However, if you used Zoids: Chaotic Century. . .

Zoids certainly isn't overused, I'll give it that. But does it exist in a format other than taped-from-TV copies that include Cartoon Network bugs in the corner?

I fear that most of those that do get made will be heavy on the flash and action, and not terribly deep.

I've only seen one of the few that exist in the database, and it was not at all good.

Alright here I go:

*cracks knuckles again* I should really get a template for doing this. But here goes:

Zoids itself, I would not consider anime. Sure the characters are anime-esque, but so what? Does every cartoon that comes out in Japan automatically become anime? I'm sure they have regular cartoons like Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse too. And I'm DAMN sure they don't sit there and make LTMV Message boards (Looney Tunes Music Videos). The thing is, we CAN make videos out of these things, because the animation and action are things we just can't get here in America. But just because we CAN...doesn't mean we always should. To me, Zoids makes several mistakes. The animation is usually dim, not vibrant and full of depth. Zoids also tries to implement three dimensional images into its usually low-quality drawings, making it look even cheaper. To me, Zoids seems like some fat American took Gundams, made them animals, and tried to draw them as if they were anime.

My next point is: WHAT SONG WOULD YOU USE FOR ZOIDS!? The show itself lacks a decent soundtrack, or even good voice actors. So WHY in the world would you try to make it look cool?

Now, I agree, Very few people have used it, so it seems like an original idea. But think of it this way: I'm sure the guy who created Zoids probably thought his idea was original too....another reason why just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Leave Zoids rot. To me, it's like Monster Rancher and that shitty new Kirby show: If we ignore it...maybe it'll go away.

Erm, anime is Japanese Animation. And so by definition every 'cartoon' that comes out of Japan is pretty much anime. Does not mean that the quality must be good (I don't see much wrong with Zoids anyway), and Zoids still has an 'anime' style to it anyway. It's all opinion, I think it's underrated because of its target audience, and that it's pretty cool, if he likes it none of you should bother flaming him if he thinks its underused and wants to make an AMV.

Luke:

OK...when I first saw your comments in the infamous 'Gundam AMV' thread in announcements, I was tempted to comment, but resisted, now, why not?

I fail to see, in any sense of the word, how JustAnOrdinaryPanda could be seen as immature or agitated, at least, by comparison to you.
He has offered opinions in a calm, mature fashion.
Whereas, you've so far, in this conversation alone, tried to
a) Give the impression that you should be allowed your opinion but if others disagree they shouldn't be allowed to comment
b) Beat a dead horse (sure, you said Panda was, but
c) Got pissy when someone challenged your comments with a reasonable agrument (your response to Panda's pointing out Zoids was, in fact, anime had absolutely nothing to do with the argument and simply made it sound like Panda was picking on you, which he wasn't)

Now then, just so it doesn't look like I'm backing Panda without reason, a blow-by-blow of why I disagree with your initial post here:

Zoids itself, I would not consider anime. Sure the characters are anime-esque, but so what? Does every cartoon that comes out in Japan automatically become anime?

Ummm...yes, animation from Japan, regardless of how it looks, is considered anime. By your standard, Akira, Jin-Roh, and Blood: The Last Vampire, are not animes, because they do not look like animes, in spite of their country of origin
(Fun fact: Anime is the Japanese word for animation)

I'm sure they have regular cartoons like Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse too.

Yeah, they're called imports.

And I'm DAMN sure they don't sit there and make LTMV Message boards (Looney Tunes Music Videos).

How do you know they don't? Maybe they simply don't have as large a following as AMVs (and for that matter, some vids on this site HAVE been done using western animation, such as Looney Tunes)

The thing is, we CAN make videos out of these things, because the animation and action are things we just can't get here in America. But just because we CAN...doesn't mean we always should.

While I'll agree it's not easily accessible in Western animation, it's getting there (the animated version of Spawn stands as proof of this)
As for that last part, that's entirely opinion. Personally, while I think we've already got Linkin Park vids out the arse going around the web, there could still be someone out there who thinks there's room for one more

Again, this is opinion-based only. Personally, I know quite a few people that view Zoids differently, does this make them idiots, hardly.

My next point is: WHAT SONG WOULD YOU USE FOR ZOIDS!? The show itself lacks a decent soundtrack, or even good voice actors. So WHY in the world would you try to make it look cool?

Yet again, you let opinion ruin what could have been a good point. Just because you have yet to find a song that would be fitting doesn't mean others haven't

Now, I agree, Very few people have used it, so it seems like an original idea. But think of it this way: I'm sure the guy who created Zoids probably thought his idea was original too....another reason why just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD.

So if it's not original it's immediately bad, again, this reeks more of opinion that anything else.

[MOD467: The subsequent quotes are from posts that were split into this thread. Please pardon the mess. :) ]

God damn! Must you ALWAYS make sure you're right? You're more stubborn than I am. If he's entitled to his opinion, then surely I'm entitled to mine. And since this is AMV Suggestions, I'd like to make a suggestion: Blow Me.

*Takes a moment to take in the irony of those first two sentences*
Actually, from what I'm seeing you're still the more stubborn party here, he gave his opinion on what makes anime, and you bitched him out for it.
As for that last part, that kind of seems to have killed your credibility

You're being immature because you just will not stop!

...said the pot to the kettle

I'm so sorry I'm overempashing tone I just love using bold! Look, I stopped this stupid bullshit. I suggest you do the same. It's immature to beat a dead horse like this.

If you stopped this, then this post wouldn't exist. Put down the bat and kindly step away from the horse.

Has anyone seen "Transformers"? Any saga. A lot of people love "Transformers". And what's really funny is that "Transformers" is almost the same as "Zoids." They both have 3-D graphics to keep their otherwise "low-rate" animation "cool" they both have lots of fighting going on. . . . I find it hard to believe that anyone would bash "Zoids" and like "Transformers".

Also, just because it has crappy animation, doesn't mean it isn't good. For instance, "Vampire Hunter D"(the first one), "Transformers", Any type of Dragonball (Just for its popularity), and "Big O"(c'mon, who draws fingers as huge claw-like objects?) are just a few examples.

. . . . Then again, who really knows if the flamer likes "Transformers"?

Uh...ok........

I am not personally interested in the Zoids show. When I think of the show, I only see a chick in a kick-ass raptor-looking mech with two huge chainguns on the shoulders and several missile launchers all over it. Here is a picture:

My recent Zoid Zero AMV was a deffinite departure from my typical AMV's; however, I needed to do something with a lot of action that would make for a pure action AMV. I'll be the first to admit that for an indepth AMV it is not but if you want to see the culmination of the entire series into 4 minitues of pure action then I think it does the trick. Personally I like romance and story AMV's as that is my pref. but I figure unless you can challenge yourself and do something out of the ordinary you will never advance.
