Probably better than thinking 'Wow, this is a great anime! I want to make an AMV with it!' and just start editing, it's better to first think of the emotions you want to call forth in the viewer, what aspect of the anime you would like to emphasize, or if you even want to use the anime to tell a whole different story. Not to mention that with some kind of a concept in mind, it's much easier to look for the right song.
If you just say "Devil May Cry with lots of action", all anyone can tell you is that you'll probably need a fast song. And mostly anyone can make an action amv with a fast song and no idea whatsoever. Why make that?
