now does rookie just mean that the join date is 2004? or started making amvs in 2004 only? the rules don't exactly make that clear

I believe that:
1) the member's join date must be 2004 (meaning Bakadeshi wouldn't be eligible)
2) the member must not have any videos listed as having premiered before 2004 (which is why I wasn't eligible last year)

Also, the creator should really be a new creator, as in, not having created videos under another name before *cough* or being a paid professional editor who comes in with extensive knowledge already (that second part is my personal view on it, others might argue that). There is no way to really check this unless they are honest, though.

To me... that second one is very wrong.
Because alot of people practice before they actually release their first video, and that would be like saying they shouldnt be able to practice for a few years.

A good video is a good video. Period.

And then there are a few people like me, who actually edited for the very first time when they made their first video. Yes, the video listed as my first 2 years ago is actually the very first time I've ever edited in a program period. 8-)

This is another award I don't think is really sensical either... It always sums up to "first video entered" and not really first made ever.

Wheee, that means i can count as Rookie of the year, since my first video listed was created about 5 days before i started editing. Just hope people know me, and maybe some of my videos, and that i can actually compete with any of the other new creators, i don't think i'm really that good, but i'll let others be the judge of that

Well, I'd like to be in the running for rookie of the year, but I'll have to check out the other ppl that got nominated, first. This has been my first year of editing, and I finished five videos in 2004 between May and the end of the year. I made a lot of progress in this time, and a lot of improvement. I also varied my videos, creating one character profile, one action, one drama, one romance, and one comedy video. I was a bit perplexed at the positive response to my first video, since it looks pretty terrible, but I am very proud of my most recent one.

Here they are, from first to last...

I hesitate to self promote for this, but then I thought, "Hey, it's 'shameless self promotion' and I make videos partly because I want other people to enjoy them and become interested in the series or movies I use." So, here's why I nominate myself for rookie recognition.

I didn't post any terribly annoying newb forum material.
I read the guides...all of them.
I eventually understood most of them, and I am working to improve each time.
I tried to produce original concepts that I felt a connection to.
I paid for everything I used (except After Effects, I'm hoping for a good birthday haul this year.)

Well, there you have it. For what it's worth, I am proud of the year I had, and I am looking forward to my Sophomore year on the org.
