Perhaps re-encode to AVI through "VirtualDub mpeg2" using Lagarith codec, and make sure to select "no audio" before processing. At least that's how I got my VOB files to work.

i sent my "idea" through e-mail but i don't think i quite grasped the whole explanation for the clip since i kinda left some of it out - but i wouldn't mind sending the clip since i've finished it....assuming i can get it uploaded to one of those bloody file sharing sites cause they all been pissing me off lately

I submitted a low-quality clip for consideration more than a month ago but never heard back from anyone. Should I assume that my idea isn't really what they're looking for?

I'd be interested in entering! I'll see if I can whip up something before the deadline.

I think their carrier pigeons choked on the smoke signals or were blinded by the Landis lamps.

The project really doesn't need more videos with audio from tv shows and movies with characters talking. There are at least 50 of them now. Unless the idea is really short or especially funny, don't make any talking-only videos.

Only when I completely run out of things to do, which hasn't been until now.

Sony Vegas Platinum 9 - quite a popular and accessible program - comes with a month-long trial period with full functionality and no watermarks on the videos. If you can't afford a proper copy (which is relatively inexpensive - I bought mine for £60, which isn't cheap but very affordable compared to some other programs which can set you back hundreds) then that trial should give you ample time to compose several clip in.
