Yeup, they say it quite a bit most of the time. The reason they say it is because parents go out of their way to keep kids innocent, and unconsciously the kids know they're not being told stuff so they explore, like instinct tells them to. Car crashes they can watch their kids fawn away and cry like good little objects. Curses they then have to pretend that their children are human beings and actually communicate with them. You'll be happy to know that more and more Americans find such things hypocritical. Things like this happen because the dying breed of self-righteous people who are terrified of their own bodies because they don't have the intelligence or willpower to think for themselves complain. There's no distinction between a curse in appropriate usage and cursing for the sake of cursing. At the very least TV is getting more and more lax about it because they're weening us off our irrational stupidity.

I just overestimated the hypocrisy of humans really with my audio choices. If you hear one curse, what's a few more curses? They were done tastefully and with good humor, and people laughed, so it really is just pathetic. When pure humor is the focus, nothing is offensive to anyone unless they want it to be.

Also, the curse is already censored for the masturbation clip. If they censor masturbation in the adult section as well, then Otakon is dead to me. Masturbation is medically proven to help your body if they need a reason to not censor that crap.

But we do need to 'okay' the small uses later on to guarantee we get our slot. Those clips are reliant on the way the words are said, because that's where nearly all the humor is. Deuce can you please bring that up with them and allow those clips to be the line-walkers this year?

The word is that the only other problem area is the "Neighborly" clip ("FUCK YOU, TOO!"). They're asking for bleeps but that ought not be a big deal. They're really concerned with the F-bombs this year for some reason.

I feel like l33tmeatwad must have when he had to create an alternate version of "Shinji is (Not) the Boss" for competition. The "censored" version is actually funnier somehow. This is the effect I think the creative censoring will have (see the Count's "Bleeped Counting Song" on YT).

Anyway, it's JUST for Otakon - the biggest big screen this project sees all year...

As long as Nagato can get by and we're allowed one use of fuck, that's the one that desperately needs it to be at all effective. It's ALL in Jack Black's pronunciation of the word, not the word itself.

I'm working right now on the censored version, trying my best to come up with some alternatively funny censor noises as fast as possible. Some are great, most don't work as well as I'd like. Censoring Neighbors isn't too hard, the problem is with that one we may want to stick to old fashioned bleeps as if it's censored on network TV. Annoys me though. Deuce, can you do that one? That one doesn't need a re-render. Just try to get the "FFF-(BEEP!)" in there so we don't lose the entire word.

By the way... I checked out AMVS2... every scene that Baywatch had was in AMVS2, and even worse. They really are getting up their own ass, aren't they. I'm going to friggan petition to make the parodies have a warning of adult content and make certain that they stop this crap. The only thing they need to do to cover their ass is to have a warning in every place that counts, in the stuff we're given, on the door outside, and on the schedule. That's it.

Anyway, I hope to have this done in the next two-three hours as soon as I can decipher which sounds I like the best. That's why it's taking me so long, I'm experimenting for best effect.

Is there any word on getting an extension of a couple days more as long as they're aware we're censoring them? And does this mean we can have both AMVS3 and AMVS4 now?

I dunno about us getting both in but I can tell you with all certainty they won't accept anything that comes after tomorrow morning, so negatory on the extension. :( And I already took care of the One Piece clip. I think we can get away with one F-bomb since they still haven't mentioned the Haruhi clip.

I'll probably be up all night again so whenever you can manage the revision (as long as it comes in before sunrise)... ;)

I'm nearly done with it, most of the sound effects I either like or work for me. I'm going to upload a version for everyone to look at and I can do a revision or two tonight as well, so if certain sound effects just don't work, I can switch them out (or you could with the revised text version. Be ready within the hour.

Edit: Hehe, what if I were to make a sort of final screen and put "Hastily Censored for The People" or something^^ Have Edward Elric with a big shit-eating grin and a thumbs up or something with a long-ass raspberry playing in the background ^^

Rendering right now. Uploading it to rapidshare immediately after and posting for you.

If you think any particular sounds or whatever aren't working and you think one may work better, you have my permission to change it if you'd like. Gimme a few minutes.

Edit: http://rapidshare.com/files/405019265/S ... nsorDV.rar

Here it is, Deuce. I'm sorry it took so long. I did my best with... a little amount of sleep. Took much longer than I thought to search my sound libraries.

I added something at the end that you can cut off if you want, or include wherever if you'd like. Just a small commentary on our situation ^^

Oh, and I'll be up another 4 or 5 hours, so if you need me to quickly do some type of change for you I can get it back to you within a half hour. I'll be monitoring this thread and refreshing constantly.

I've watched this clip countless times but I found it much funnier this time. Your censor sounds were better than mine. But I'm gonna leave out the "Hastily censored" piece to not take jabs at the coordinators running the show. They're really giving us rope to swing with by extending us until this morning. They also told me they've been going to bat for us every year, making sure there's room for the new video. This is encouraging. After all, we did kind of push the boundaries a bit this year with the liberal foulmouthedness. ;) Anyway, here goes the last push...

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (Convention Premiere TBA)

Heh, no problem. I wanted to make it a general jab at people who can't handle 'language' in a humorous light, not the people in control who do it to appease those people ^^ I admit, I don't mind it not going in, but it helped me feel a bit better about having to do this ^^

A couple that surprised me when I tried them were the 'coocoo' sound worked so well for "...god damned ass backwards *COOCOO*" as it totally caught the intention of it statement and the image as well ^^ That one was by far the best, most of the day was spent attempting to maximize the impact of the censor sounds.

Some of them went through dozens of iterations, and I'm not completely happy with many of them, but some just worked. The second and third 'FUCK!" in the background were the worst, because they cut off part of the narrative as well. But the first one happened in a lull between narrative, and the scream I used caused me to lose it so hard when I first heard it that I had to stop for a bit to calm down ^^ Also I spent a half hour looking for a zipper noise on the net for the 'cock' censor ^^ In many ways it's actually worse than saying the word :D Love when that happens. I never would have considered a party favor or golf swing to work so well for censorship

I would love to reference the censorship somehow though. Most of it works, but the last two screams have no way of working. I even searched the rest of the commercial for replacement words, but the bastard never says 'your' ever again -_- If you feel it works though, I'm very happy I didn't waste the day. My biggest worry is that people will pay more attention to the noises and miss the overarching joke because of them.

EDIT: Actually, do you think you could ask the contact if we could keep the military disclaimer for fun? I mean you can tell them it's not about them, because it's not, but I think it'll be a fun jab at censorship in general ^^ It's more about letting the audience know a bit of the situation in joke form I guess.

I really just hope this is enough censorship. I cut things close for the purposes of maintaining the integrity of the original as best I could, using the "f-" and "sh-" and "-ing" to allow those who wanted to hear it to hear it. Pleaaaaase let them have this be enough... If it happens not to be and I have to cover the words more, hopefully they won't be schmucks about it and give us a bit of time to update it as long as they have that version ready.

Totally agreed with above, though I can't say it wasn't a worry for me all along. Anime fans as a group definitely are far from prudes. I gotta say it's pretty hypocritical though to let a couple f bombs go and it be acceptable. But then I remember when one would get you an R rating, and now a few get through with a PG-13. I guess they just wanna cover their asses legally since minors and adult content can be quite a quagmire. And who knows, maybe somebody complained. It wouldn't be the first time one person ruined it for everybody.
Have you ever heard Monty Python's "I bet you they won't play this song on the radio"? This now kinda reminds me of that lol. Hmm...maybe I'll do something with that next year. :D

Least there's a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel now though and it may still yet get shown. That makes me happy.
I gotta say though, maybe I'm erring on the side of caution but if language is their problem, I'd hate to have yet another one sent in and get STILL not shown just because one got left in. I know it makes no sense since they're still willing to show 3...buuut...ya.

You were right moonbunnychan, I apologize to everyone for being the reason this shit happened. I'm very sorry I overestimated this, I just wanted to have some fun, and this was how it expressed itself this year.

It honestly just... baffles me a bit where the logic comes from, until I realize it really isn't logic, just fear of retribution. I'd very much like to know why they were so much more strict this year when AMVS2 had worse scenes from Eiken, and AMVS3 had extremely blatant curses but we never heard anything.

I sincerely hope I walked the line well enough and this one gets us in. I'm ready at any time to make changes if that happens to be necessary tonight, but the guys over there seem to be with a good sense of humor and just need to do the necessary ass-covering, so hopefully enjoyment will win the day.

It makes me nervous too, but really if they didn't mention it and they accept it, then it gets in and we have our one major swear ala PG13 movies. They're pretty much allowed one or two if they truly want to. They've seen we're willing to do anything they ask, so hopefully that will put the ball in our corner one way or the other (either a little leeway in time to fix more, or leeway with bit more language due to our track record)

Well hey, everybody HERE and apparently everybody at AMA thought they were hilarious and saw no big deal in it.
To be honest I was sweating it a bit that they might object to all the Geico stuff, since in the AMV contest copyrighted stuff and logos was the reason the trailer category got pulled that one year.

Links are sent.
With an hour to spare.
Now that it's out of our hands, I'm off to watch my 2004 Scissor Sisters concert DVD.
I'm in the mood for disco, groove, and coffee.
If I could think of a AMV idea for a Scissor Sisters song...
anyway, let's hope this is the one that gets us in.

Again Deuce, and everyone, even if this one happens to not be censored enough for them, let's still fight for it, we're still early enough for it to be reasonable. They saw what we did with only a day, and that should prove we will not need any time at all to get them another one if they happen to find it still a bit too risque. We just have to argue that point. Your three-year relationship with them seems to get you some definite clout, Deuce, so I don't believe they're interested in letting this thing fall by the wayside.

*crosses fingers*

Now get some much needed rest... I'm gonna shower for an hour to get this muscle loosened in my back ^^ Hearing that AMVS4 wouldn't play yesterday was like insta-stress, just add water.
