Yeah, I know Movie Maker Sucks, so I'm not allowing that generally. I only have one exception for now, a friend of mine doesn't have anything but Movie Maker, so I'm allowing him alone to use it. No one else will be allowed to, though. I took a look at one of his submissions, and it wasn't too bad. I think he has some program to enhance the quality.

Anyway, the point is, Movie Maker is not allowed.

That's probably gonna be the main benefit to people who submit AMVs (the part about it being in the series)

yea but amvhell was already a successful series...
or you are already missing my point?...

and as for movie maker - its mean to not allow people who use the program... it CAN export good quality, you just gotta know how

Indeed, the original AMV Hell was done by a whopping two people. It didn't really start as much of an MEP. People just loved it and it evolved from there.

And what's with the double standard, letting your friend use WMM but no one else? Either let anyone use it or tell your friend to pony up some cash. You can be selective with any clips that get submitted anyway. If you think the quality is too low after you receive it, then scrap it or tell the creator to try and get a higher quality version.

It can? Hmm... I never knew that.

You're right. I didn't know Movie Maker could make higher quality clips, so I assumed he had a program to enhance the quality. In my mind, if someone else proved to be able to get a high-quality AMV out of WMM, theirs would get in too. But if WMM can make high-quality clips, then I'll let people use it.
How about if people know how to get a good high-quality clip out of it, they can use it. But I'll know if they did it right or not ;)

sorry about double-posting, but no one else posted and I just wanted to ask this...
OK I updated the rules on the site and added them to this topic (check first post).
Does it look good? Any other suggestions?
I appreciate all your help with this, this is my first MEP.

it goes to the old one but Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides... it will tell you how to export from wmm2 to get better quality...

and yes there are other programs you can use to enhance the quality of your videos (such as avisynth) however most "good" editors know how to use them

Any program can put out poor quality videos, you need to know how to export properly from any program to get better quality.

Thanks for the link. I've put it on the site to help newbies at making clips. Now I just need people to join and submit some clips...

AVI as Lossless, yes. XviD doesnt work out, DivX fucks up and gets orphan frames.
MP4 (h.264/x264) is a Format that Vegas isnt capable of even importing

I'm using Vegas Pro 8, which does work with mp4 files, so I think I'm OK there. ;)

If XviD and DivX don't work out right, I may not worry about that for now.

you might be able to accept several different kinds of files, but when you do get them you should convert them all to lossless before importing them to vegas

Yeah, I'm planning on converting them to avi first, to preserve the quality.

Small update for the guidelines:

I"m taking out the rule that the clip must be uncompressed. It takes up too much space, so compression and XviD are allowed.

On another note, we still need some more submissions. So far we only have 9 submissions. Please join AMV Explosion and submit your clips. We are not accepting clips that were in another MEP, but you may submit rejected clips from another MEP.

F-A-I-L

Enough said. Ok let´s get clear: If you compress something that is already compressed you get less and less quality. So if people come along with 2000kbps XviD that are already made of fansubs than your project will look like shit or has more MB than you can count to.

There are one-click-hosters like megaupload who help you to store and send big files.

I don't have much choice. I don't have enough hard drive space for everyone to send in uncompressed files. If the size was smaller, i would accept uncompressed clips, but filesize is too big.
