The 80's Rock! An 80's Music AMV Project!

Postby Paper_Bard » Wed Oct 17, 2007 8:00 pm

I've made several AMVs using 80's music, and I find, if using the right anime, it is effective, brings back some rock legends, and seriously invokes nostalgia.

Now: Here are some guidelines:
Music must have been recorded from 1980-89. It must represent the common music of the era. Preferrably rock, but hip-hop or soft rock will do as well (Rock Lobster by B-52's for example, is a great 80's pop song).

Any anime is acceptable, however I'd like to put a 14A rating limit on it. I don't want to see bloodbaths like Hellsing or anything even remotely resembling hentai.

I want to hear some ideas, and we can form things from there.

I want to be involved.

But you need some more details. Deadline, preferred formatting, intended release date, etc, etc.

I'd be willing to get in on this, as well, but Kio is right, we need more info, man!

Ok, here's some more info.

Technical Details:

- no Subs, Divx Logos, 4kids logo's, whatever.
- Frame Rate 23.976fps - 24fps
- AVI
- Size 640x480
- No Hentais
- Only ANIME, no Games. (Advent Children can be used)
- Only 80's songs (I will accept the odd late 70's if it is the eariler work of an 80's band (such as ACDC) and only if it fits with the 80's music feel.
- 1 song per person (preferrably one band per person as well)
- 1 anime per person

Deadline: This is mostly a brainstorming process right now, and I want to see how many people want to be involed, but i'm thinking January 1st to be the absolute deadline, and this is being generous. I don't know how many people are going to get in on this and I have no idea how this will come to be.

Hmm... I could get in on this.

Just to clarify:

You would want only 1 song per person, so then no mixing of different songs and also only 1 video per person?
Also, since only 1 series per person that would limit the 1 video to only have 1 source? So no multi source videos?

Any possible ratings on quality? Or any 640x480 avi will suit you?

As far as quality, I would say make it as good as you can, to be honest. XVID is a good video codec.
This is going to be a multiple author AMV anywa,y and It could get really confusing if people keep using different songs.
The reason I wanted one anime per person is so we can have a definate feel o each section. I'm going to do this like a flicking of the channels, to different songs and such.
Ignore the 640x480 size issue. My own program only wants to do 1280x720 and still be good but not take up mroe than 200mb. I like it, however, so I'll use it. Don't make it any larger than that, ok?

I would prefer songs on the top 100 billboards.
I don't have access to a plethora of anime, so If anyone has a romantic comedy, a really good song would be '867-5309' by Tommy Tutone.

If this gets off the ground and I have internet, I'll be interested. I got a folder of about 100 songs from the 80s i've been dying to use.

I don't know what technical info yous till need, this is pretty open so far. I mostly want people's ideas. What anime-what song-and what the general idea you were going to go with.

Ideas are one of the last things that I usually make solid. I don't have any ideas currently for videos that are not hentai using 80s music, well, that fit your 1 anime criteria. I'm interested none-the-less.

Though I do wonder, if your own system only does 1280x720 and this is what you will pull the project together with, wouldn't this then make any normal video look awful? Especially considering normal anime from dvd footage is 640x480 (if we're working with square pixels.)

I would agree, and for sure would most likely choose 80s source.

Well... I have to look into the program a little more, but I'm sure I could find a way to make it the size we need. Might take a little maneuvering though.
Alright, I'll take out the one anime per person, alright? That should help some people.

As far as 80's anime goes, If you want to fine, but there have been some great anime shows of late and I don't want to hurt anybody's creativity. Plus, I don't have any myself, nor do I know of any. I'm not sure if the original dragonball might have come out in the late eighties, but its before my time anyway.
Yes, I was also born in the 90s but love the 80s!
