If you've having troubles, DVD Fab Decryptor works very nicely on Gankutsuou.

I'm supposed to get my source within the next couple days, gotta finish up a few little projects and then I should be able to focus entirely on this.

Yeah, I got ripIt4Me to work as well.

Oh yeah, I saw INTERSTELLA 5555, and that gave me some ideas on how to handle this better O:

I did get a rough beta already (from kiarrens - damn she’s fast) and though I may have been more than half asleep when I watched it at 4AM, it got me thinking afterwards about track clarity. My ideas for joining segments together was initially that I would let the natural blending of the music lead me (forgive me, I have no musical training and know zilch about correct terminology). To clarify, I gave out a lot of track times that significantly overlapped with the assumption that each editor would realize what “thread” of the music was theirs and stick to synching with that “thread” even when it was a minor nuance because it was just fading in or was in the process of fading out.

Now I’m thinking that holding to such a rigid pattern is more difficult for you all as editors, is more limiting for me in terms of providing tasteful and varied transitions, and, all in all, might be a bad idea for everyone to stick to – but having some of that initial idea might lead well to segment blending when the music warrants it. I want some input on this – what do you all think?

Well, having music training I can see what you are getting at originally. Since my track is one of the ones with a lot of overlap I can see it clearly in the segment. The idea actually is an interesting one, but really hard to perhaps edit to, simply because naturally each editor would want to edit the whole track, and not leave in blank spots in their track because the musical thread is different.

However, if you stick to your original idea when it comes to mixing all the tracks together you would have the chance to see some interesting differences in the sync'ing styles of each editor involved. With fading in and out between the overlapped tracks as the music leads you it would provide some interesting sync in and of itself. Even if each track is full of editing on the threads that are not technically theirs.

Basically, I think each editor should sync their segment how they see fit, and then when the tracks are mixed together you can see and feel both the video and music when you put it all together. From the start I found that the beauty of this MEP also laid on the way the VJ (in this case) mixes the overlapping tracks, and as such the finished product would be different depending on who was doing it.

In the end I think each editor should perhaps keep the flow of their thread in mind, but not give up on editing to someone else's thread in their track.

Essentially a compromise which is what I had invisioned earlier today. Just wanted to shed some light on the subject so people were actively thinking about it when they got to editing.

BTW, any new banner attempts ngsilver?

You do know that I'm putting in more effects and sync on that, right? :D

Are you implying that we should communicate with each other regarding which effects/sync techniques we're using for the parts of our segments which share themes with other segments, Justin? If so, that'll be a lot of work, but it would certainly make the end product more interesting.
On the other hand, NG has a point that it will be interesting to see the different tacks people take with the same themes.

Been pretty busy around here as well, since I'm moving out in a few days. As far as editing goes, I've got another project to finish up, so after that's all said and done, I should be able to get rolling with this. Since ngsilver is using Cyber Formula, I was thinking of using Initial D: 4th Stage. But yeah, just wanted to get that out there. Hope everyone is doing well. :)

Yep, I know. My mind just started wandering and I thought "hey, I should probably bring this up since I doubt it's crossed the mind of like anyone."

Nope, just want to make people aware of the fact that (almost) every segment has elements near the begining and end that, to be blunt, "aren't yours" and I was hoping to see some creative ways all of you people were planning to deal with that by providing my initial assumptions and the flaws that idea had. An "FYI" basically.

Also, nice to hear from you Reigna, i'll update the first post with your selection.

I'm in the middle of a OS reinstall ATM, and I haven't done much since I've been working on creating a website and forum for my guild on flyff and editing my VG4 track. I might have some time to do some work on it tonight after the install is finished however.

I like the blue one ng, it's a bit hard to read, though.

Sorry, meant the top one.

Added Spirited Away to my track (I suspected I might have to do so from the very beginning, Howl's Moving Castle just didn't have enough action to carry the whole segment), and I have another beta for you, Justin.
I'm feeling pretty confident with it now, I just need to fix a few small things and of course get your approval, but I think mine's nearly finished.

Kiarrens, I got your 3rd beta and dropped you a few suggestions over AIM IIRC. I'm at work now, but if you want to PM me about it, that should be fine.

I recently received a partial beta from Borihiei and i'm back at school so I should soon be able to establish an FTP for everyone to use to send me stuff.

I'm also expecting a death in the family to soon pull me away for a week or so. I'll try to check up here (not that anyone's actually posting or anything) a few times if i can.
