Alright, I wanted to talk about this tomorrow after finals ended for me, but I just got tired of waiting, so here goes :

Working on Blumchen (which I was very lucky to get invited on), I really didn't know what I was doing. At the time, it seemed like I did, but I was still very new to the editing world, and had barely watched any MEPs, let alone worked on any. And so I thought I was doing quite well editing my track for a first time, but then I saw some of the really good MEPs, such as the ROSes, of course, but also the Memory Flash Project, a superb MEP I invite you all to check for inspiration. Anyways, I was very impressed, and even intimidated at the time, but I figured, hell, it probably took these editors years to reach that skill level.

So that calmed me somewhat, until Blumchen finally released, and I realized that some of the editors on the project had already pretty much attained that skill level. No point in keeping their names private, as I'm sure you'll all agree the three standout tracks were from Bauzi, Kaxi, and Cracky. Now that was a shock to me, and I went from amazement to severe disappointment in my own ability. I felt I'd gotten serious around the same time as these guys, and I should be keeping up with them, but I obviously wasn't.

Those revelations led to a month or so of gloominess, which basically resulted in my last video. And I was really trying to force the good stuff out, but the thing is, it doesn't come out till it's ready to come out. And around a month ago, I think I finally started grasping it. That's when I realized that I was just pushing myself way too hard.

What I wanted to say to the first-time participants on the project is just that : Relax. You're here because you have the potential, and from the start, the spirit of our MEPs have not been to be the best. They're there so that younger editors can benefit from older ones, and everybody can improve in the process. There are really no MEPs like these : Consider yourselves very lucky to participate. No matter how small the progress I've made since making Blumchen, I would have made 10 times less if I hadn't joined.

So really, take advantage of this experience to the fullest. No question is too stupid, and feel free to directly ask one of the more experienced editors around (Meaning not me) for detailed help to get your segment looking more the way you want it. But don't force anything. I believe what makes Blumchen work in the end is the balance between the ambitious tracks and the more simple, yet still well edited ones. It paces the project, and I find I can watch this more often than say, "Alternate Dimensions", where the complexity of each track requires so much concentration from you that you really need to be pumped to watch the project, and take so much varied information in.

So don't feel any pressure, not even if really kick-ass betas start coming in. A team isn't made of all-stars. It takes stars and role-players to be the best

So that was the message. Now comes the fun stuff. As I mentioned earlier, I took personal offense to getting my ass whooped in Blumchen, and I'm determined not to let it happen again. I've been developing an idea in my head for the last few weeks, and I'm now confident I can pull it off. It should be fun stuff, and here's where it gets interesting : I'm changing my anime pick to... All animes in the project. There is no way in hell you can guess what I'm gonna do with them, but suffice to say I need very little footage of each, so that aspect can easily be dealt with in PMs.

I'll end with one last thing : To all the editors coming back for a second time whose names aren't Bauzi, Kaxi or Cracky : You got your ass whooped in Blumchen too, you know. You gonna take that? :O

Alright, so uhh... Have fun editing guys! I know I will.

In an ironic twist you are, in fact, going to try some complex Alternate Dimensions shit and end up getting your ass kicked AGAIN? Amirite?

Saw that coming a mile away. To clear that up, there will be no complex effects involved 8-)

Last hint :
I also always encourage and expect originality, and if that's by means of new effects or interesting ways to sync, please have at it.

Speaking of new and interesting stuff, I need to talk to you about a new and interesting idea I had a few weeks ago that involves you. Oi, I should get on AIM more often...

All animes in the project.

heh
This sounds really bad ass kicking. /me interessted

and I should be keeping up with them, but I obviously wasn't

I don´t want to say "You can´t edit like this man!"... Yes I say it, but I want to say that I was once at this position too and it sucks. Everybody should find his own way as I did not even two years ago.

And I was really trying to force the good stuff out

You know I still want you to finish the little Bloodlust amv?

That's when I realized that I was just pushing myself way too hard.

True... At least I can´t push myself too much. =/

Anybody has questions? You can ask me! But be aware that I´ve next week 6 fucking courses with projects and examns where I get my final mark on it (last week of the semster).

Bah... Gregg! Stop honoring the others and me. We´re all getting red in the face...

Christ, I just have too many projects this summer. Something's got to drop.

On that note, get your anime choices in people! Now I can't start without you

And Ben, is Kino an option for you?

Gregg, is ok to push you to try and keep up with the rest, I agree that Crack's, Kaxi's and Bauzi's tacks were very flashy and impressive looking, but I don't think they owned my ass :P... or anybody's ass, this is not a tournament of who makes the best track, I knew that my track was way too simple compared to other tracks.

When I first saw Kaxi's beta I was like "wtf? 20 secs of pure win that I will never equal in 2 months", but then I thought that it was my first time in a MEP, my effects ability was limited to what Sony Vegas could do, I didn't had other programs to start experimenting so I said "meh, I will not change my editing style to match someone's track" and so I did, people of the MEP helped me with the problems in the beta and I was happy with the final result of my track even if it wasn't that good :P.

Yeah I know, I'm not part of this MEP, but I want to share my personal experience in the other MEP since it was my first :P

Other than that I would like to see this "interesting idea" of yours in action 8-)

Yeah, you basically did EXACTLY what you should have done. Kept it simple for your first time and still made it awesome. But really, no track is too simple here. Yours was just right 8-)

And this ain't a contest at all. I'm just pretty competitive by nature, and I figured this thread could use a little more fiery spirit right about now :O
