Personally, I've always wanted to see a video to "A Hundred Years" that ran like this, though I know that's probably not quite what you had in mind.

Love was just there as a simple and obvious example to explain the idea. Me? Do love? Riiiight. I would sooner say nice things about Sammy or appologize to the mods for all the times they have to go behind me deleting posts of me being a dick. Dedicated to my wife is probably the closest I'll ever get to doing a romance. I prefer the unusual so the cities idea would be high on my list unless someone mentions another idea that strikes my interest as much.

Streicher wrote:Will the videos be edited at the same time with everyone getting a certain sub-theme or will they be made one after each other so the next editor can see where the other left off?

This isn't the telephone project, the deadline would be the same for all segments. Although I'd like for people to show betas and if possible to include things that reflect on each others segments. For example, with the cities idea a feudal era shrine could be inserted into later segments as if it were a historical building, similar to how some American cities have 1700 era colonial buildings in middle of a cities high rise downtown. Perhaps with careful source selection a future tech citizen could have a similar, although advanced, style of clothing as shown in a modern age segment. Maybe a car from an earlier segment drives down the street like it was an old classic. I'm sure there are other ways of tying together the segments if I thought about it. Nothing major and attention drawing of course, just small things in the background that a viewer might think is neat if they caught it.

I'd really like to see an MEP that finally accomplishes something in a serious sense thematically, rather than through sheer flash.

Hopefully making clear that the segments are meant to directly reflect and advance a central theme rather than stand on their own would cut down on unnecessary action or effects although now that you mention it that'd be something to explicitly spell out in the ground rules.

This song? I've never heard it although with the lyrics I could see something like my idea to it. Depending on song length it may not make a good MEP though.

Anyway thanks for the feedback guys. Keep it coming, I'm definately getting a clearer idea of how this would need to work and what ground rules would be needed to be successful. Also of note, if someone wants to take this idea and go start their own MEP then feel free. If it's up to me to head this idea then it'll be quite awhile before it starts, assuming I end up doing it at all.

Hmm, I've thought about actually putting together something along these lines as well, except it was rather more plotcentric (I was thinking of MEPing Anime Academy Heroes but decided it was far too complex, however it followed through with the same idea of pursuing a common goal/theme).

In that same vein, I've thought of a project that would have each track representing a different part of the world. A tragedy or some sort of event leads the world into some combined purpose, and each track shows different anime showing what each of the characters are doing to help out in this global mission. This wasn't exactly the plot I had envisaged for AAH MEP, but pretty close.

Anyway, another idea I had would be something along the lines of a 24 hour theme... the life of a person from their waking moment, through breakfast, lunch and dinner, their school/work life, and their night life, be it they are people who love to go clubbing, or stalk the night as some sort of hero. I had thought of doing a video to this previously, and was thinking of using Clair de Lune (by Debussi (sp?) I think), however that music is probably too short for a MEP.

Out of the ideas you put forward, I definitely like the one that you put the most thought in. Almost like "A History of Anime" so to speak.

I'm definitely interested in participating in something like this, depending on the theme of course, and actually mildly interested as well in heading or helping out in coordinating this if it gets off the ground, but I'm never one to make promises because with my own videos and studio MEPs as well as AMV coordination duties for Manifest, you can say that I'm already stripped for time :P

would be even more interesting if the tansitions between the animes seemed realistic.

Like it zooms out of a window from a scene of one anime to the next still holding the same theme and it does this through-out the mep. That was just a quick example others are like, a character looks up into the sky and the next anime starts in the sky etc..

doing so would give a viewer a contiguous feeling from the video instead of random anime to the same music like most of the mep's today.

Plus everyones keeping the same theme so its like all the animes were happening at the same time in the same world so to speak. Maybe thats a little too far in depth but i like the idea, pretty original.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

If you just compared me to a Sammy video then I'm afraid I have no choice but to slowly beat you to death.

I've thought of trying that before. An entire video with no obvious cuts, just pans and zooms to different scenes. I never did anything with the idea because it would take entirely too much pre-planning for just one person to do. I don't even want to image the type of cooperation required to do a MEP like that.

This sounds interesting. I have a lot of anime with very strange scenes, so I could easily take part in the 'mental illness' section.
