The Doom Project [Dark Side of Phobos]

If you still wish to be apart of the project then you can PM me and i'll place you on the waiting list, just in case an editor decides to leave.

The Doom Project

A project in which tracks from the recently released non-profit OCRemix album will be created into one large Multi-Edited Music Video. The album is in tribute to Doom, and is called "The Dark Side of Phobos".

The album can be found [and downloaded] here:
http://doom.ocremix.org/
The site gives the availability of downloading the entire album through a Bit Torrent program, or by downloading each song individually in MP3 format directly from the site.

I have sought [and been given] permission by the Album's creators to go ahead with this project.

The general theme throughout the MEP is aimed at "Horror" or just plain twisted, but is not a direct requirement. If you want to go with a completely different style then go for it, just inform me before hand. Same goes for Game Rendered footage and sprites. Not a direct requirement but can be used if you choose to. This project is almost entirely open-ended, i just want to know these things before-hand.

Guidelines (if you can't follow/agree with them then don't join!)

General:
1. I will make the video for which song I have chosen, or if it has already been taken, and I can find no other, for which I have been assigned. I will NOT make somebody else’s video regardless of whether or not it may be better than theirs.
2. I will take criticism, as a part of this project's aim is to further AMV growth.
3. I will contact the Project Organiser with my idea, and if already taken, I will either pick another idea or be assigned one if needs be.
4. I WILL USE [mostly] ANIME FOOTAGE.
5. I accept that at any given time my video may be removed from the project [but only for a damned good reason].
6. I will inform the project leader on ANY issues that may prevent me from completing my track on time, or meeting any other deadlines.
7. I will have FUN for Christ’s sake.

Deadlines:
1. By the 1st of December 2005 I will require some kind of short "proof-of-concept" video. This is so I know you aren't just being lazy because of the extremely long working time you have.
2. Final deadline - to be decided. The reason for this is that because this project is not being designed with any particular CON in mind, it’s kind of up to the editors themselves. But bare in mind there will be a date set in the near future.

Technical:
1. Final copy encoded at 29.97 fps in mpeg-2 (23.976 with 3:2 pulldown is accepted) with a resolution of 720x480.
2. Do not put any pauses before or after your video, no matter how minute as I plan to have smooth transition from one video to another.
3. When adding your title card [MTV style] try and keep it within the title safe area.
4. I'd prefer to have the original songs at their full length, but creators can change the length of their chosen song if they so wish [nothing below 2 minutes though].
5. You will use DVD [or as close as] footage. I don't want to see downloaded footage, no matter how good the video.
6. If any technical problems arise and you need help, you WILL not be embarrassed, you will ask for help, because that's what we're all here to do, make friends and improve our abilities. Besides, I’m sure there are people in the project who will have MORE than enough editing experience to help you out.

Concerning MTV-Style Titling

Each video will have it's own title at the start. To create titles [and i hope you are editing with Premiere] go under the file menu > new > title. I would like the title information to be presented in the following order:

Song title

Remixer's name
Anime
Your Studio/Nickname

Use Arial Black as your font, with font size at 24. Keep opacity at 100%. PLEASE USE THE TITLE SAFE AREA!!! Put your text in the bottom left corner of the inner square.
Use the title at the start of the video, have it fade in and leave it for a couple seconds and then fade it out.

If you need any help with getting the final copy into mpeg2 format try here:

Thanks Castor Troy for pointing it out, and thankyou Fluxmeister for writing such an easy-to-use guide.

Is there a specific resolution you want the video in (i.e. 640x480, 720x480 etc.)? I got all my DVDs ripped, and am ready to start ripping footage, but need to know if i need to stay in a specific resolution.

i altered my above post to add that in. i said 720x480, because that way if i change my mind about resolutions [and everyone's title cards are within the title safe areas] i can feel free to crop a little back to the 640x480 mark. it all depends. So if your working with DVD footage you need to add borders like so:

mpeg2source("D:\my footage.d2v")
lanczosresize(720,360)
addborders(0,60,0,60)

get my drift?

and yes, i know some people use 720x405, but i've found 720x360 works best for my wide-screen anime DVDs. might just be me though.

c'mon guys, we've got ~8/20 of the required editors, which means we need ~ 12 more. There has to be someone interested. At least check out the tracks we're using (site, etc, listed ^)

Okies, I have a change of plans... Narutaru is the most disturbing anime I have ever seen. NGE, RahXephon, those have nothing on it... And so, I will be setting that to "Leaning Tower of Babel" for my track.

...If I can just recover enough to click on the files without puking... @_@

I wouldn't mind taking up "Industrial Strength", and I believe I shall be using Vandread.

Also just wondering, could you possibly add the other editors choices of anime beside their name/track selection? Just so whoever else that joins on may see what is already being used.
