I agre with zarx. He just doesnt sound serios enough about it. Plus, like I sujested, the best option would be to start with an established Open Source editor like Openvip and add um, more amv related features. Which confuses me realy. What could a video editor have to be specialised for amv's? What's wrong with the current video editors most people use?

THe reason I'm denouncing the form of any profit from this is that its proposed as a comunity project. Something which alot of people could contribute to. Also, considering you you can get good mid level video editors for a pitance these days, it'l have to be a damn good program if your going to charge any sort of money for it.

I agree with willow, as a programmer myself, theres nothing wrong with him making a profit off of the program, even if it is specialized towards making AMVs, something thats not intirely legal, but the same program could still be used towards making legit stuff. The program itself wouldn't be illegal, you could just use it for that.

I also agree with Xarx though, this guy doesn;t seem serious enough about it. If he was, he'd have a website with details outlining the entire plan for the project along with whatever revenue plans and how much he plans to sell the program for, and whatever other details is nessisary. Just asking for programmers and providing an email adress alone, (in a hyped up way to boot) not to mention the many typo errors in his post, just doesn't fly as something I would take seriously to be interested in. (Although I have toyed with the idea of building an video editor around AVISynth before)

The only question I have is why he wants to reinvent the wheel when there are plenty of perfectly good bases to start from.

Like Cinelerra.

No, you can't profit from licensing copies of it, but you can profit from distributing it, especially in packages that add, say, hardware and additional tools. There's no point in profiting from licenses, anyway...why would you want to sell licenses to a product that is explicitly intended to make illegal works?

The only conclusion that seems valid is that the original poster has no idea what he's getting into.

well, making an extensive editing program, even if you dont need to include support for things like DV and other non-anime/non-dvdrip features would take months if not years to create.

all you experienced programmers go ahead

The ultimate question is, conseptualy, what can it offer me (me being each individual editor) that my current editor doesnt? You say "ok lets make an amv dedicated vid editor" but you offer absolutely no dietails. It sounds like a pipe dream thats had almost no thought put into it. If you want to make something like this then put some thought into it. Write down a paragraph or 3. Jumping out of nowhere and saying "ok lets make a vid editor" does nothing but discourage anyone who would seriosly consider being part of something like this.

Just my opinion, but I think that's the one small setback as an AMV editor. I spend hours upon hours on making a good anime music video. I can bring life to some old song by setting it to an anime series in order to get people to buy the anime or the album. I can make things that will eventually make you feel really good upon completion. However, most of us will never see us make a profit from our little hobby, other than some certificates, trophies, or maybe a green jacket.

We may never get more recognition beyond the awards that we win on occasion. The closest thing to being compensated for our little hobby is probably being commissioned by an anime company to make a music video for a particular title -- again with no further compensation besides a free DVD. That's what happened for the editors that were commissioned by ADV Films to do an AMV for Noir.

Please don't misunderstand me - we know at times it can be expensive and/or frustrating, but we still love to create and edit AMVs.

Just in my view, it'd be great if we were somehow more recognized or more compensated by our works than just a pat on the back and a few good reviews and maybe a trophy or award. But being in this society where big companies are very protective of their work, it will never ever happen.
