A little preview of things to come and technical test. Keep in mind:
1. this was done quickly (10 min) so it is more jagged then something that would appear in the final project.
2. I also used very small objects which stuck to my hands and made things dificult.
3. I learned a lot: blue screen wasn't blue enough, a close light made it an uneven color (though it gave me awesome shadows) and I need to use a remote to avoid camera movement.
I still plan to do the flower but I haven't had a chance to get one yet.
Here follows Soren's brave strugles against the evil forces of technology:
So I'm all excited about trying this out so I run out to the store and buy batteries for my families digital camera (my good camera is film), now I'm all set. I set up the mini-tripod but the low down angle creates a very close vanishing point, so I get the tripod and set up my
"blue screen" and "profesional lighting system" and started working. The pictures didn't take much time at all and I was feeling good as I headed to the computer to see if I moved things slowly enough. Well Vdub didn't want to deal with Jpegs, just Bmp's so I tried to find a quick way to change all 40 of them. Eventually I just loaded them all into premiere but couldn't find the frameserver, when I suddenly realized that premiere would do everything I needed (or so I thought). And everything seemed to be going well, playing the immages forwards, then a few in the middlle so it wouldn't look wierd, then backwards. But those dreams were wrecked by premiere's crappy key controls.
So I exported lossless from premiere, moved it to another computer and opened it up in after effects, then there were more problems as AE would crash every time I moved the video in the composition frame. After many saves I devised a workaround, and was able to mask with AE. Then an export to BMP files and load in premire and export as huffy and compress. Done.
Not. The video was at 24 FPS according to Vdub and assumeFPS in avisynth but it wasn't playing correctly. I was tearing out my hair at this point, two days after I started. The media player would think everything was fine but the video would go slowly and finish 10 seconds late. Finally I sent copies to Bsrk and downwithpants and they figured out that 2048x1536 was a wee bit to high a resolution. One last pass with Vdub and I was done.
/rant (had to get it off my chest.)
