The FPS was agreed at 24 from what I remember before.

Sounds like a good idea, knowing Kaleido Star, you can certainly get the right kind of content out of there. Thematically, all good.

Provided I don't get some really embarassing video problem due to resizing here (possible), I should have the first beta in a little while.

If Pen-Pen sets up an FTP, I can put it on there. Otherwise, I can probably set up my own, though it won't be on all the time (I can't really keep my PC on constantly).

If you'd like to see the beta, PM me; when it's done, I'll put it up and tell you how you can download it.

***

Update:

Vieweable Beta v0.2 available - now how do I get it to teh project members?

...phew, you might think it's quick, but at 10 hours of editing, this is actually well above my average editing time for 2 minutes of video (I know, I'm a pathetically basic editor). Luckily, I have a sense that it's not nearly finished at all, and I hope to get it up ASAP to get important feedback, particularly technically.

"Plot"-wise, I think it's set up fairly straightforwardly:
:00 -Birth
:07 - Early Childhood (w/baby pictures to boot - should I make them black and white?)
:24 - Youth/Peace/Nature
:38 - Nightmare/Destruction/Terrible future
1:02 - Back to Youth/Love transitioning at ~1:14 to the Accident,
1:24 - Hospital, Death, flying away from ~1:32
1:41 - Longing to return to life
1:48 - Gift of life/Revival

I edited up to 1:57 (and can stretch it a bit longer), and there's a nice near-static zooming face shot at the end to make a smooth transition to the next track.

***

Update 2: I now have a Beta on Songbird's ftp; since I'd mostly like to keep it within the project, PM me for the latest link.

I'm stopping work on the track pending feedback, for now... :)

Another good bit of news! My brother (registred here as cless) may want to do a track (also, footage-allowing), and he is only really interested in:

12:50-14:33 Gituar Solo

I don't think anyone called this one yet. He still has exams, but he may be able to start in the next couple of weeks; so, keep him in mind for that slot, if anything...
He hasn't made AMV's as yet, but he's already a much better video editor than I am.

Lots of editors, lots of sections, to much overlap... :x I'll get it figured out one way or another.

I have an FTP set up, this one is only for the next two weeks untill I can get a more reliable one set up but it will give people a chance to get used to the structure.

Oto: The first 38 seconds of that was awesome, just perfect. It totally blew me away. Although the first shot is really in your face and sudden. It might not be a bad idea to soften that or even take it out and have the first cry come out in darkness (this is a tecniqe seen in movies a lot.) After that though it was amazing. The nightmare started out well, although it could use some work. Some of the clips felt long especially in areas where the music is very dense. This is particularly noticable in the last clip, perhaps some internal beatsynching would work well. The music changes suddenly but it would be nice if you could soften the transition somehow, maybe having her wake up since this is supposed to be a vision. I really like the romance part, the scenes are well chosen and the flow is excelent. At the death there are again some really dense sections of music that feel unfufilled. Anyways, I know this is a beta so I don't want to tear it apert but I think with some reworking of the denser sections we've got an awesome section on our hands.

1:30 in the morning, track request listing will have to wait till tomarrow.

It's not so much an editing standard as a commitment; but certainly, there's no wrong in leaving something that you don't have ideas for.
Oh well, see you around :)

Thanks, actually I'm glad you're fine with the first section as that's what concerned me primarily (it either worked, or it didn't), I know full-well that the rest probably requires additional work.

I'm going to look into introducing more scenes in these 'dense' sections, it would probably work out alright (although I'm gonna have to rip some more footage). The only one I probably wouldn't be able to add more content into is 1:02~1:14 (I used up most of the scene, and putting in anything else there would break up the logical flow); for the rest there's either more in the same scenes left to work with, or I could get away with putting in new, semi-unrelated footage.

Anyways, I'll get on these two main concern sections shortly.
[Pen-Pen quickly zeroing in on so-so sections - if this is like with Ararat, it could only mean good things  ]

I watched it! :D

Well, contrary to Pen-pen's view, this is a beta, so I'm going to do my best to pick it apart while it's still raw. :P

I like Pen-pen's cry out of the darkness idea. In my experience, starting a video with only sound tends to make viewers pay closer attention. You could try fading in the clip of the baby in the doctors' hands during the second cry and then fade to the lights. (I like the lights. :P ) I like the baby scenes as well. You don't have to make them black and white because, well, the fact that they're pictures and they're sliding across the screen already denotes them as elements of memories.

0:23 - I think you can find a better way to match the "ping" here. A sound like this usually makes me think teardrop or some other small, falling object.

0:24-0:37 - Love this part. Fluid movements + beautiful footage + tranquility = great section.

0:43-0:44 - good match.

0:51-0:52 - the dam (?) seems to be breaking too slowly to match with the music here. Plus it's a rather abrupt transition from the firely scenes before. Think you can tweak it or replace it with another clip?

0:59-1:01 - same comment as above. The forces of evil seem to be a little sluggish these days. And is that a -100% speed change that I see there?

1:02 - whoa! This is exactly how I imagined this section to start, back when I was brainstorming: a motor vehicle flying down the highway while the sun sets in the background. :D Longer fades here might do the scenes some good.

1:22 - there is a piano glissando here that to me would suggest a quickly-paced transition out. And I know that you're planning to fix this transition, so I wont say anything more. :P

1:29 - filler clip? It's pretty much a repeat of the previous one.

1:48 onward - I like the whole zooming out on the world thing. Since we were going to have the actual project title come in at this point, I think maybe you should keep the clip on the hands and not revert back to the hospital room? (It would make things look prettier. xP) I know that the "resurrection" goes with our whole life theme, but it would look kind of weird to have the words "ProjeKct: Life" pop out of her forehead. Maybe you can bring in the resurrection sooner and revert back to the hands in time for the title?

Okay, that's enough of my blabbering for now. :) Even with all these criticisms, I really enjoyed what you've done so far. Be sure to pm me when you finish the next beta!

Thanks!

I may take a break from editing for a couple of days, but I'll be sure to have all the suggestions as a 'checklist to improve' for the next beta.

With the middle 'evil' sequence where there seem to be some problems, my brother who watched Arjuna a bit more than me suggested some additional scenes I could use, so I'll be looking into that for the most prominent changes.

And, yes, that was a -100% speed change. I don't know how you managed to catch it, but... let's not dwell on that

BTW, if anyone ever wanted to contact me but couldn't, I now should have ICQ, AIM and YIM in addition to my usual MSN contact... though I still don't use them a lot.

Are you still accepting submissions? There are too many pages in this thread, I'm waaay too lazy to read it all. Well, if you are still accepting then here's my choices:

1) Journey Section 1 - The last part of it (from 2:57 on) - X 1999 or possibly Ghost In The Shell
2) Epic Melody - I'm not quite sure what you want here, I really like the part at the beginning of this section - X 1999
3) Character Profiles - Profferebly the first part of it - End of Eva or possibly FLCL

Yea, we are, and actually it looks like your picks haven't been mentioned too much - so it'd be great if you could do something from there.

Now to wait for Pen-Pen to start settling/update the track assignments....

The idea of having the title on one of the space scenes is intriging but I would like to have it on the cymbals at 1:56, perhaps we could extend the section a bit to allow for the resurection. My original thought for it was to find a scene with some one falling or rolling and have the cymbal be when they hit the bottom so that it is suddenly peaceful. There are examples of this sort of thing in "Oritario of Gibli" and "hungry like the wolf" near the end. I'll have a better idea how this is going to work out once we figure out what's going to come directly after the title.

I'm also thinking about putting something short in front of the song. The upcoming animasia release has got me exited and I'm thinking of a similar intro

Jasper-Isis: Your plan sounds spot on. The 15:48 doesn't exactly strike me as credit material but I see you point about the climax and the idea of having a section after the credits, a la "Kill Spike" is intriging. The problem is that it puts a time limit on the credits, perhaps we can think of something that will fill the gap and have a fuller version at the end.

You can tentatively add my brother (cless) for

12:50-14:33 Gituar Solo

He is interested in it although we're presently discussing what he could possibly use for it that would fit into the general project theme. Seeing how it's a more upbeat guitar solo, most of what comes to mind is just smooth-looking action (Bebop, anyone?), so far...

Ok I've decided to put my other project on hold and start this one. Im watching Argentosoma again first, just to build a more dietailed concept and make storyboarding easier. I should start by early next week.

penpen: thier are a few issues I've got. Firstly, if this is about life then each segment should use a central character that seems as old, or older than the central character in the segement before it. So it would be a good idea if everyone could post thier idea's (I'm asuming most Pm'd them to you) and hopefully we can get this project organised a bit more. I thought about using the driving rhythm section and should be able to do my section around it. However I would still prefer to use the ThematicBreak or possibly the GuitarSolo. Thoughs three sections would fit well with the concept Ive currently got. Its just that I think the DrivingRhythm would be too early. Anyway, if the ThematicBreak and GuitarSolo are taken I could easily work with some of the other sections. I seem confused and right now I probably am a little.Hopefully I'l finish watching the series (26 epps, I've seen 5 so far) soon and have a stronger grasp of what I want to do. One thing about the story, the person who the main character wants revenge against is actualy a large, butt ugly mecha sized monster (though the seting is a typical futeristic one). That wouldnt be a problem would it?

Oto: Good to see that your brother is in. It feels good having someone els who uses vegas.

The character I was considering featuring in the 'driving rhythm' section is approximately age 12 (can't recall off the top of my head). Dangit, though, I've got other videos that HAVE to be finished before Jan. 1 (for UshiCon) so they're getting top priority in my cortex at the moment. If y'all are building speed on this and need someone else to fill thiis section, go ahead...but I still want to do it, honest. :D

depending on what section i was to get my characters are either 13 or 17 and with the track placement evangelion would make no sense as the anime for the fisrst track so im going to have to try and find a different anime for the introduction i was requestin

and figures that so many other people want the track i really want. damn im never going to get it.
