ProjeKct Life

<s>The Liquid Dream ProjeKct:</s> ProjeKct Life:

In 1998, three musicians from Dream Theater, John Petrucci (guitars) Jordan Rudess (keyboards) and Mike Portnoy (drums & percussion), teamed up with famous King Crimson bassist, Tony Levin, to form "Liquid Tension Experiments."

In 1999 they recorded their second album. The epic centerpiece was a 17-minute progressive rock composition entitled "When the Water Breaks." The name came from the unplanned departure of Jhon Petrucci when his wife went into labor.

”When the Water Breaks”

This song has something for everyone, from powerful bass and drum lines to soft mournful guitar solos. Not your average repetitive techno track, it flows quickly from one section to the next in a ever-changing musical soundscape. Because of it’s length and complexity I have decided to open up the project to other editors in an attempt to give it the visual treatment it deserves.

This project is not a whimsical daydream. I already have several dedicated editors who are committed to making this video a reality, so you should have no worries as to whether the project will be completed.
The sections are:

0:00-1:50 Introduction ------------------------Otohiko
1:50-2:14 Title, prelim credits.----------------pen-pen2002
2:14-4:45 Journey section---------------------open/pen-pen2002
4:45-6:30 Drums, Driving Rhythm------------Bad Martial Artist
6:30-8:17 Character profiles-------------------Various*
8:17-10:08 Bridge/Thematic Break-----------(Toji Fujawara?) and Songbird21 (9:30-10:08 may be open)
10:08-12:50 Epic Melody+Organ Section ----coffee54
12:50-14:33 Guitar Solo-----------------------Bum
14:33-16:25 Journey Reprise -----------------Jasper-Isis
16:25-16:45 Conclusion------------------------pen-pen2002**

*This one has some subsections. I would like it to be a charicter profile section. 6:30 charicter 1 7:09 charicter 2, 7:29 charicter 3, 7:48 charicter 4. Kalium already has Charicter 3.

**I will edit this using sections from all the submisions.

Right now this is forming up to be the first plot based instrumental MEV. Each editor will focus on a momentous event in their charicter's life. Once they are all put together it will be a tribute to the diversity and tenacity of life.

Spots are still available, but not for long!

That’s all for now.

That song ROCKS.

If I get some more time here after a few other projects I'm in (and school  ) I'd love to do something with this!

Well, tentatively, I'd really like to work with 8:17-10:09.
1) It's focused around Tony Levin whom I'm most familiar with
2) What's more, the bass riff is actually of ProjeKct 4 origin, which I'm all the more familiar with
3) It kicks large amounts of proverbial buttocks.

But, there's cons...

1) Possible lack of footage (though I suppose the open-endedness of the project is a plus, which may possibly negate it)
2) I might not have the editing skill to match the speed involved there. (on the other hand, as you were saying earlier, perhaps it's better not to over-edit)

I'll see if I can think of anything for that. If I don't, I might want to try another section. If I do, and quickly, I might want to do more tracks if they'll be available.

***

Here's a question though, in case I decide to try some things with this soon...

Any technical specifications? Especially in terms of frame rate (although something tells me for a project this size to maintain high video quality while hosted within local limits, it'll have to be 24 FPS - or will it)?

***

Anyways, you know what I think of the project as a whole

Wow, sounds very interesting and is sure to be a really cool project. I'd love to join up and would probably sign up for a track a little heavier like I, O, P, or Q just to name a few.

Omgoodness... I am so in love with every single part of this song. If I really had to choose... I'd say that my favorite section are A-B-C/LL, D/U, and F. C/LL is just cool beyond words. (Anybody thinking of ROD? Or even Ghost in the Shell.. with a focus on movement instead of explosions.) D/U and F in particular are so filled with emotion that I feel inspired every time I listen to those sections. I know that sounded cheesy but I'm completely serious. x__x

The part starting at Q to S seems to have kind of a tribal beat to it. Then at S it breaks into the weird chorale feeling. I like that section.

T is slightly different. I like that section too. It make me think scifi.

Macross Zero? Or maybe Neo Ranga?

You could get both across with those pretty well (of course, the only Macross Zero I've seen is Otohiko's video, and it's been a LONG time since I watched Neo Ranga....seems like I am tending to ideas for anime I don't own yet again).

Anime I own...Brigadoon might fit Q to S. It has this surreal artistry to it that might capture that section pretty well...

You think Macross Zero might be workable here? I'd actually try using it again (I'd like to do it a step better than my last vid); but
1) I'm not sure of the thematic relevance
2) Maybe someone else has eyes on it?

But if it's good for some sections, I'd give it a try. It's the only non-licensed footage I can probably work with without fearing too much for quality.
The only other series of any relevance I probably will have access to without running out and buying/renting anything (and my pockets are empty as we speak) is Arjuna; unless you really want me to whip out the Eva movies again. And I sort of cringe at going back to that again

Yeah, someone has their eye on that section. :P But hey, I do have other videos to work on, like cactus pornography and Christmas carols and such...
