Okay. :takes a deep breath:

Finally got the DVDs from Rose today. And looking at what's on them, it looks like we've still got a little ways to go. I will be uploading most of the fullscreen narratives stuff to Bakadeshi soon so he can work on those. Why "most" and not "all"? I'll get into that in a sec.

_________________

First things first - I am waiting for high quality (and uncorrupted T__T) versions of these editors' videos:

Bakadeshi
pen-pen
downwithpants

Please get them to me ASAP!

And just to get this out of the way, can we vote on internet distribution resolution sizes? Pick from one of these two...

512x384 and 512x288
640x480 and 640x352

_________________

And now, the main problem...

In an email a while back, Rose had suggested that we re-record the widescreen narratives that he had voiced, as they were not "clean enough." I was going to wait and see about this, but it looks like Rose really wanted us to re-do them, as he did not include his recordings on the DVDs.

So. Any male editors (with access to decent recording equiptment) willing to fill in?

_________________

Which brings me to the biggest part...

Now that we are in control of recording those narratives, I can move Simplicity to the widescreen section, where it rightfully belongs. (I have talked to Ooshna, and it seems that he too favors such a move.) This, however, creates an even bigger length gap between the two "halves" of the project. 17 minutes!! Adding in the narratives would widen that gap even more...

So obviously, we are now seriously in need of one, two, or maybe even three more fullscreen videos. Luckily, Songbird has graciously agreed to record narratives for any new videos that we might get. We just need the videos themselves.

So far I've come to know of the following possibilities:

Downwithpants - has a video in progress, may be able to make it for Animasia, but doesn't want to rush things
Bakadeshi - expressed interest but no solid video in mind
Otohiko - expressed interest but no solid video in mind
Ooshna - expressed interest, don't know if he has a solid idea in mind
Tsunami Jones - has a finished/released/catalogued video (I had turned it down because it was already released, and we really need some fresh tracks in this old, old project)
Maverick-Rubrik - expressed interest but no solid video in mind, then got caught up with other stuff

And then there's a video that I myself have been working on recently, and that I should complete within the next week or so. (I was originally planning to submit to AWA Pro, but a number of setbacks threw me offtrack.) It has the feel of Surrealism - with some added flavor from the horror/suspense genre. I'll put up a partial beta if you guys are interested. I'm only hesistant about this because I don't want to oversaturate the project with, well, me. Heh.

However, the video is only 2:27 long. So there's definitely room for more.

Comments on this situation?

And, on second thought, backing stuff up.

[edit] Happy page 100. :P

Oh boy, the irony

The project is reborn, and not a post too soon for page 100...

***

You know where I stand on the res - 512 is fine by me, provided it doesn't compromise the video's look.

With the voice - I have good equipment on hand. The voice is the bigger concern, but we'll see - if anyone else can though - PLEASE, do try. I'd rather someone else do it, even if I'd enjoy it, since I think there's better voices for the purpose than mine.

Possible new track - most unlikely from me. So I guess it won't happen at all. That's not neccesarily a very bad thing, given how saturated the project is with my stuff already :)

Your possible new track - you know what I said. I'm in support. The others had better be too

512x384 and 512x288
640x480 and 640x352

512 x 384 would be best compression-wise... I'd stay away from 512 x 288 and 640 x 352 since they restrict full screen shots more... Plus black bars don't affect compression very much (since they're basically interleving 24/7 unless it's extremely coarse).

640 x 480 would be extreme for a project more than 10 minutes, so I'd say 512 x 384.

EDIT: I just realized it was in groups of two, not four... silly me. So just keep the last thing I said in mind. :p

Well, anyone used apocliptca yet, was thinking about doing something
along those lines and wouldn't mind making a filler instromental. I'm waiting
on the other tracks for Dark Desires. So, I got sometime on my hands
right now. Just let me know and I can probally whip something up...

I think i might be able to make a video for the fullscreen section but the video i am planning on making will consist of entirly of frame by frame sort of editing so if anyone knows of a program that can take frames from a video and turn them into images files let me know.

looks like the project is opening up again for submissions...

my vid in progress will only be a minute and a half. i'll put some more effort into working on it instead of playing wow...

tomoe is being rendered as i type. i had deleted some of my source files, so i had to remake some parts of the video. i'm increasing image saturation and contrast by a lot, so hopefully the dark scenes will be more visible.

jasper,
512x384 would make more sense if submissions are in 640x480 and 512x384, since it would be better to scale down than up. and the savings in filespace.

ooshna,
virtualdub will convert video into image files. i think it's file/save as image sequence or something.

oto,
chances are, unless you have a prosthetic voice, your voice sounds better than mine.

Heh, the problem is that I don't have any real sophistication in my voice, which is kind of what Jasper has in mind. It's also slightly higher-pitched than I would like it.

It's excellent for voicing a tripped-out teenage hippie, but I don't know if it will work for a sophisticated-sounding guy sitting there in a nice chair, smoking, and talking about the mountains of eastern Turkey very well.

I can try an practice this, but I've spent the last couple of hours 'playing' with my voice, and it's not coming out too well, in part complicated by the fact that I rush too much when reading off a text...

Anyway, I'll keep trying, but PLEASE - if someone else can, do so. Even if you just have a more mature-sounding voice, honestly.

I've got a mic, and I could do some voiceovers if needed.

Fancy doing some of the narratives that are on DWP's site? That's what we're looking at. I think the 'role' is basically a 'sophisticated-sounding guy sitting in a chair smoking' (whom I don't think you see, you mostly see the chair). That's what Jasper has been asking that 'cigarette smoke' clip for.

Anyway, here is what I sound like talking, from random bits of my sessions today just to give you an idea of what I would sound like. Since most of anyone can do better than that, I hope someone with a more fitting voice comes forward.

And oh, ignore the audio quality. That's just a test.

sweet, you sound like you have a slight eastern european and a fair canadian accent. which could work quite well for the narrative. the recordings weren't bad. if you spoke louder, as if you were talking to someone on the other end of the room rather than three feet next to you, you could get a fuller sound from your voice, although you may need to step back from the mic to avoid saturating the recording.

now let's hear kalium's demo!

Ok I think I have an idea for the fullscreen video. I will use Millenium Actress (which is being ripped as I type) and then one of In Flames instrumental songs like The Jester's Dance, Hargalaten, or Whoracle. It will be done with images like I said before and most likely will be about how the main character is searching for the guy she loves. Very very over done but I think the style I will do will make up for it. Also I have a sneaking suspition that when i go to take images of the avs file it will be intergrated and i will get artifacts so if anyone has a sollution please share.

x2

I honestly can't believe people are catching my 'eastern-european' accent in these recordings lately. Seems like Canadians here notice it a bit less, heh :P

Ooshna -
sounds like a decent idea. What I've heard from some of the In Flames instrumental stuff could be interesting, but I'm not exactly a big expert on them. So I guess anything more concrete you have - send it this way, then we'll see what to make of it.

By the way - Jasper tells me she wants a high-quality audio file for "Simplicity" from you, at the very least a 320kbps MP3. Can you get that by any chance?
