Hmm I missed that, I thought it was a compilation of all parts and to be shown before the sixth Salad.
Imho the fifth Salad is the best. While it lacks the continued inside joke to a certain point it has more good clips.

I'll abstain from this project then, because you'd end up with something closer to 12 minutes than 22 minutes :P

Again, keep in mind he's looking at audience enjoyment. You have the reaction vids for the past two years to watch to get a gauge on how the audience feels in general. They're not necessarily all gut-laughing at everything, but there's just a general feeling of enjoyment and fun that many clips that aren't really 'hilarious' have in them in the con atmosphere, which I'm not sure if you've ever experienced. So you should definitely give your input on the merit of good clips and their presence. At the very least another perspective will be helpful. But think of the clips in terms of how they interact. And if you think a joke is too overdone, you can vote for it to be removed. The 'porn' one was from AMVS or AMVS2, so it wasn't old at the time.

Also keep in mind I've been showing these at panels for up to five cons each year.
I based the clips chosen for this compilation on reactions to them from all those conventions and the consistency of those reactions.
Given that, some of these clips are in my mind considered "safe" (like "Santa's Death Note" from II, "Bedroom Drama" from IV, "Head Off" from III, etc) but who knows...

I do have to agree with Krvabo that 'head on' was just not that well-executed of a gag in general, that and adult swim needed several bumps to be recognized as a running gag at all, plus it was kind of Otakon focused, so it probably doesn't belong in this one. AMVS3 definitely was generally the weakest production for overall stuff, but I must admit, I still like a lot of my clips from that one, and I really, really appreciate you using so many of them.

While the running gag didn't work, I honestly am still proud of my Excel Head On one as a stand alone, and in the audience at Otakon it did get a reaction, especially the eye twitch. The other two didn't really get one. The Hajime no Ippo Head On one doesn't really do much with the concept besides the obviousness of the punch. The Big O one was better in my opinion, but the connection and the way the shield blocked it, and the fact they were mechs was a bit of a distant connection for the medicine and it didn't seem like many people got it.

It just seemed AMVS hadn't refined the more complex running gag concept yet. 'SMOKE' was so simple and perfect that it generated the whole concept I think. So I'm glad you've got those in there. Then moonbunnychan descended from on high with a sun-like halo around her head with the Geico Money and forever changed our lives ^^

Sorry, Deuce, I didn't get the chance to watch again, I'll get something hopefully by later tonight, it's a tough decision. But one question, why isn't Haruvi Baadoman in there? I didn't notice the first time through, but I'm curious, since of all my clips it may not have the most audible reaction, but it's my favorite next to Sony POS.

I noticed that one wasn't there.
Not sure how I missed it.
I'll throw it in for Round 2.

One thing you could do to save a little time potentially in this is have more credit clips. You could put the second Haruvi Baadoman clip and the Pedobear clip in the same place as they were in AMVS4 in the credits. I mean that was where they ended up being strongest, plus there are other quick clips in here that could be put back into a credit position as well to mix things up. But only a few of them would work. Like we talked about for AMVS5, any credit clip needs at least a few seconds of buildup in order to draw the audience in again.

Interestingly enough, I could take the original Gundam Explosion and add in the fizzle in and out to it as well and send it to you, and you could put it in the credits of this compilation, and then since it shows up in AMVS5, it will actually form a sort of continuity with this Best Of and the subsequent showing of AMVS5 over the next year. Plus we could try and get this Best Of to be a sort of Encore showing at Otakon 2012. I was going to ask for AMVS4 to get shown again, but this could be good as well. I may take some time and make a title slate for this one if I can. Couldn't be very complex, but any ideas on what could be something fun and quick to do for a title?

Round one of eliminations end at midnight tomorrow.
I have only heard from one editor.
If I don't have enough clips eliminated but the end of October I'll have to do it myself.
I'd much rather this be a cooperative effort...plzkthx.

I was watching the AMVS5 reaction vid again today, and I had a thought that could be quite fun, and bump up our creativity as a project yet again if done well. I don't have a concrete idea for it, but the idea hit me when I thought about how we kind of incidentally ended up having two unrelated things, the explosions, and the 'fluffy' combining in the end.

That connection led me to think wouldn't it be cool if our running gag this year was somehow utilizing the fact that we use different clips, but have them combine. Like have one clip happen from one anime where a character pitches a baseball or something as part of a joke, like that would somehow be the ending punch line, and then test pattern, but then in the next clip, it's just a scene of someone getting hit in the face with something from the opposite angle as the previous one. It would have to be a really fast test pattern, little bit quicker so it wouldn't register as a separate scene but more like a cut. It's a risky one, require some serious planning potentially, but if anyone gets any ideas based on that it could really bump our game up a bit I think.

Just wanted to get impressions on that as a concept. As well as write it down somewhere so I didn't forget it ^^

The results from round one of cuts were:
* "Bye Bye Bye"
* "Sailor Moon Laugh"
Furthermore, I'm declaring the Haruhi / Birdman clips "safe" because of how they bookend each other the way the Tenchi Muyo fap clips do.
Also safe are "Sony POS" and "Gurren Rock" because of their build-up.
After this round of cuts, I'll create a new time line video to reflect the changes.
I need EVERYONE to participate if you don't want me to make too many decisions on my own.
We need to know what we're left to work with by October 24.
From there we will have a week and no more to work out the clip order.
Nekocon (for me) begins November 3.

And, in case you ever wondered, I checked the overall ratings of all the Salads.
With a 4.01 / 5, AMVS4 is on top.
AMVS5 has 3.9 so far.
AMVS2 has 3.71.
AMVS3 has 3.66.
AMVS (aka AMV Hell 3.14) comes in last with 3.61.
