Oh, one small thing, in the 'What does this button do?" one, you may want to cut a few frames sooner, like show the keyboard for "Button do" instead of cutting directly to it. It's a bit too fast, but don't cut too soon, or the audience will catch on and be ahead of the joke ^^ That's key, is to keep ahead of their perceptions on the joke timing. That's why I love youtube poops, they are ALL about that. One idea that might be good for the dead center or latter half of the production would be just a guy standing there, waits a moment, then lights a cigarette and it explodes without warning. But again it has to happen fast enough so they don't see it ^^

Is this better?

Hehe, yes, it is ^^ But this time, now that the timing's more solid, I noticed you used a higher-pitched click, probably because it's a keyboard? I don't even know why, but now that I notice it, I'm realizing that for some reason the deeper click just comes off funnier. It could be because you used the sound of batman opening something, so it has this sort of quick double-click to it. That may be why. It almost comes off as a weakened connection. That'd be my mistake, I totally hadn't noticed that aspect before that that click noise itself held so much of the impact O_O I love learning new things :D

Anyway, I think if we can get away with it, we should try and be consistent with the two sounds. The same click, and the same boom. If we're going to change the explosion imagery out, we need to have the audio consistency so that the repetition becomes subconsciously recognizable. If we were to only have the explosion sound be the same, it would still connect, but the click and the explosion work so strongly I think it'll strengthen not just the clip, but also the entire running gag. You proved that to me unequivocally with the jackpot explosion ^^

Oh yes! One other thing about the jackpot one. I loved it, but after watching it several times the other day (yes, I still love it ^^) I noticed what it was in the back of my mind that made its ending feel odd. It's the explosion footage. He's in this posh casino and then suddenly the explosion is of a cliff edge or something. I think the 'what does this one do' one lands stronger because the explosion's in a window and the mind can connect the indoors scene and the explosion.

I could be wrong though. I found a quick building explosion in Toaru Kagaku no Railgun to give a quick test. Give it a shot and see what you think:
davidkrein.net/E07_Railgun_BuildingExplosion.rar
The aspect ratios will be off of course, I'd say just scale them to fit, it shouldn't cause any problems.

Anyway, if you can take a moment to switch it out, can you update it and post again for a comparison? I'm curious whether it'll make a difference.

sure I'll download that and switch it out now. ^_^ as for the click/explosion sounds being consistent, if we decide on a single set there's no problem with me switching mine out when we go to do the final render.

I like the new explosion much better ^_^

Before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SgAessjpJk

After: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmMl_oYx13U

Though I used the explosion audio that was with the clip as opposed to the stock audio. This can be switched out when we decide on a set explosion noise.

Hehe, yeah, visually it does seem to have a stronger connection. Your original was great too. And unless anyone thinks they have a funnier over-the-top explosion noise, I think the one from the batman youtube poop is the one we'll be using (the one you've been using until now). That 'after' clip is a great test for that as well. You can tell after listening to that how the loudness and immediacy of the other explosion adds to the joke. I never put this much thought into why I found it funny, but I'm learning a lot from this. So yeah, go with the original click-boom combo. I didn't even realize audio was still in the clip, VirtualDub usually errors about the audio ^^

One thing I didn't think about when I sent the clip though. The first few frames seem to take away the immediacy. See if you can cut off the first few frames and make the first frame that shows of the explosion the one with the first bit of yellow comes out the window. I'd be doing these experiments myself if it was my clip, sorry ^^ I'm doing my best with the intro now.

We fixed the audio cut off in count jiggly and went back to wide for 1-800 contacts (and corrected the pan at the end)

If people want the St Frog cut it's not a problem with us.

here's a clip from Nerima Daikon Brother, @ 0:18 second he says "cause I'm hungry for salad" very emphatically and we don't have an idea for it but it seems so usable so we thought we'd just throw it out there

we'll see what we can do for the explosion gag :dino:

I liked the Sgt Frog one actually. It's so wtf. I could see it going though if we're coming dangerously close to the 30 minute mark. Same with my She Ra one. I like it, but I won't be heartbroken.

I don't know where our time is right now, but I admit that once I'm done with this intro, I really want to make another couple short clips, and one potentially long one.

If I can get Franken Stein to sing one of the Charlie Sheen interview remixes, hopefully I can be given some time to do it ^^ Also I promised myself I'd do a Greg Giraldo clip this year in celebration of his life.

Also, on the off chance there was one, I asked Captpan again if he has any other clips he would like to submit. He brought up one of my favorite moments he ever did that I forgot about ^^

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sCv5Soc-Bk

It's from 11 seconds to about 21 seconds. I won't say any more ^^ What do you think?

Wow...that was crazy!
I say do that. ;)
And that half-hour mark is pretty much gonna be a done deal, give or take a minute.
This is including the clips that have been committed / yet to be submitted.
I'll be working on a new rough sketch over this week.

Hehe, that particular youtube poop wasn't one of his best overall, but that moment gets me good every time. It's a quick 10 seconds, so I figured it could be put nearly anywhere. It's a bit too close to the explosion style, but I'm not sure it'll matter. Is it something you think will work?

It's certainly unexpected, which is the impact.
That being said, I think it should lead into a "slower" or longer clip.

Hmm... it's a valid idea, but I think it's too expected. The use of the epic music for an anime everyone already knows isn't epic kinda lessens the impact when it explodes. Plus the explosion happens when the bucket is still in mid-fall, and you can see them still, so it doesn't really have the slapstick impact going for it. If you read the earlier post I did, a lot of the impact is a silent moment for a split second right before the loud explosion, but that's not the only way. Deuce had a good example with his clip's music, since usually the music has to contrast the explosion.

You might remember this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exuX4LPS ... re=related

If you analyze why it works, a lot of it is in the fact that it's dead silent first. The other obvious parts of course being the contrast of the music and the scene ^^ The red helps too of course ^^

If you do want to do a penguin explosion, we'll have to make it something new somehow, since the penguin is already well-known from the AMV Hells. It may just end up being dead silence and as soon as the penguin hits the bucket, have the click-boom and don't even let the bucket hit the ground. But make sure in any case to cut to an explosion where you can't see the scene as soon as the explosion sound happens. If you can still see the characters, it kinda kills it.

Here, I did a quick example with what you have: davidkrein.net/BucketofDoomTest.rar

Still doesn't quite work, it'd be better if I had the end of the song and the music trailed off, but it's different from the AMV Hell ones in its punchline. But with the music you can still sort of tell something's going to happen. I dunno, you chose a challenging one.

Just wanted to post an update on my progress for ya'll. I've still got several I need to do, I'll probably be working past the May deadline on it, but a version will be ready most definitely... well... technically a version's been ready for a couple weeks ^^

davidkrein.net/TitlesTest06.rar

Anyway, hopefully it has a good effect. I was thinking of moving Azumanga elsewhere to give a visual break and take space elsewhere, but I'd rather have the 'traffic jam of anime' happening ^^

Edit: Oh yeah, moonbunnychan, do you think you can send me a decent quality render of the Geico Money shot with the hypnotoad eyes animated from your ending shot last year? I want to have him floating through :D (money shot... god how I wish we could have used that pun somehow...)
