My only problem with it is that while the fandom overlap is pretty big, it's not 100 percent, so too much of it could potentially be alienating (no pun intended) for those who haven't seen it.
(Still pretty darn funny though).
I'm kind of inspired to make something Dr. Who related now though. Hmmmm...

The idea is pretty (well.. very) nice and I can imagine a lot of cool stuff, but it sounds like an _assload_ of work to do. I don't think it's really all that easy to do as well, making it look right.

Anyway, I've just sent in my Death Note / Trollface - clip and imho it turned out pretty well. :)
Now I have to decide which clip I want to do next.. I've got 1 half finished and 2 ideas. The Smells like Nirvana one might do well, but can I use K-On or should I go for Haruhi? K-On might be better, but if it's overused I'd rather not use it as source material.

After that there's the "Backing Up" song, on which I'd thought I'd use Chobits and the "They're Snatching yo' people up" song. For that one I don't have any image material yet and I can't really think of any yet :D

I think it may be a bit alienating, but something I remember is when I didn't even know what the Daleks were, when a friend showed me a picture and started explaining it to me, I found them almost an adorable idea. An ultravillain made out of plungers and paper and shit, it was hilarious, and how cliche they are somehow strikes me as they'd be awesome invading anime cliches or something. For example I think the Goku stopping the Dalek ray would be pretty amusing. What we'd have to do is of course mix it up a bit so it wasn't constant, just like Geico Money is, so nothing particularly new there. In fact combining the Daleks and the explosion idea strikes me as some Looney Toons level slapstick comedy if edited correctly.

My friend who is a fan of Dr. Who is also trained in 3D (helped me make the Lucky Star logo) and he likes the idea sufficiently that he'd be willing to help do it. Once we have the Dalek models in 3D, which we can actually download I believe, we basically just need to toss the footage in the background, and move them in 3D so they show up in the right areas at the right times, and then it's simple masking in After Effects so they show up behind whatever object you want them to pop out of. That won't be too much of a problem, as long as people like the idea, and can make their clips by the end of this month for it in general so we have a couple weeks to make each scene work. The key is what ideas exist. For example the Goku one, and I also thought it would be funny if in the midst of K-on (since I worked with it so much now, but probably wouldn't use this one specifically since I have two K-on clips) when the sensei opens the door and she's standing in it, edit her out and put a Dalek or something. Or even reverse it, have the Daleks come in screaming and have the sensei wail on the guitar and they all just explode 80s music video style. It can happen multiple ways.

Krvabo: Speaking of K-on, if you're thinking of doing a music one, I advise you to look at Angel Beats. Within the first three episodes, you will find the best animated music playing to date in an anime I think. I don't know what your joke is, but I've heard it several times that people aren't so fond of the Haruhi music footage in general since it's so overused. And K-on, I think moonbunnychan and I both have two clips a piece of K-on, we may be saturated now. In fact I think I may just post what clips I have done so you all can see them.

EDIT:

davidkrein.net/Gaelstrom_AMVS5_K-on_Bake_Vids.rar

Here's some xvid renders of my current completed vids so you all can check them out. Deuce, you'll have DVs soon for higher quality. Ignore the lipsync issue in the BakeTest01 vid, that's been fixed, it's an initial version.

I smirked @ baketest.
I _lolled_ @ KonLepSync05
The last one did nothing for me, but maybe in a crowd it'll get laughs.

Also @ KonLepSync05 there seem to be a few places where the lipsync is a bit off: 00:10 - 00:11 is the most noticeable.

Overall: nice vids :)

David Krein? In Dutch pronunciation: [krɛiːn] it sounds the same as my first name: Krijn. The first name is of Frisian decent (Netherlands' second language in one province and a part of Germany) but it seems the surname is mostly of Russian decent. Funny :)

Krein is actually from Trier Germany as far as I know, I'm told it's as prevalent there as "Smith" is in America.

The last one I'm curious if you aren't amused by it in part due to your region and nationality ^^ It never occurred to me, but I'd imagine that show wouldn't be as amusing over there. I know it's not the funniest joke, but when I heard the lines in the show and imagined it coming from them, I laughed, and it stayed amusing long enough that I went ahead with it. Most of my friends who heard the idea and the final clip laughed, or at least smiled, so while it may not get laughs, I think it'll settle for an 'amusing' one :D I'm not sure which one should go first in the actual production though, since whichever one goes first will have more impact.

I'll take another look at the lipsyncing on the one you mentioned as well. It can always be adjusted. Mio's mouth being open at the end was meant to be the "Heh" Garth does at the end, but it too easily comes off as a mistake.

Yanno...I'm surprised no one has attempted Spongebob or any of the Nicktoons we all know.
Still...less than two weeks until the first call for final submissions.
Remember we enter post-production on May 3.
Final submission date is June 1.
We MUST be out of beta and ready to submit to Otakon on JUNE 15!
Anime Mid Atlantic (smallish con) is the usual test audience the weekend of June 17.

I'm working on two or three theme clips myself as well as planning the closing credits.
Definitely have to speed them up more this year.
I know Gael is working on the opening.
Now that we all have a better idea about how to establish balance and flow, this post-production shouldn't be as rough as last year (knock on wood).

Next year I think I'm gonna loosen up on the theme.
I'm thinking about accepting everything that anyone wants to submit and locating a central theme from what we have later in production.
Just an idea.
There's still time to think about that.
Let's get this one out of the way for now.

The opening will be a tough one, I'm finishing up one more clip before I move on to that one. I'm hoping to edit out the actual Dr. Who spinning logo and make my own earlier so it reads more as titles. I'll try to cover it up with characters and editing the rest of the intro in and make the title in 3D again.

As fun as the Dalek idea may be, I think the explosion running gag may be better and simpler for our timeframe this year. I'd still like to try it, but I haven't started the intro yet seriously, even if I have all the base footage and know how I'll do it, it still is a good chunk of time, and I need to find all the different footage from multiple anime in order to mask in the characters, which will be the actual hard part. The GOOD part is, once the base is laid out, I can add characters in on an as-needed basis. Just the more I can get quickly, the more I can get in there.

For the Daleks, though, really, does anyone have any ideas? Moonbunnychan, as a fan of Dr. Who, I think if you and I were to take down maybe 4 or 5 running gag clips tops we could pull it off in time. It's not that much editing in terms of actual footage, but it is some post effects and masking. We could find a shot where we can cut out the dalek ray and use scaling to make it how we need, and there are scenes in Dr. Who with enough daleks in various positions if I can't use the 3D model. I'd just need some help finding the Dr. Who scenes.

I'm not trying to push my ideas but... well... nobody else seems to be. I honestly liked the Energizer idea, but it isn't viable anymore because of the lack of quality footage. The Daleks have the potential to unify the intro and the rest of the production (Especially if I have them floating in the wormhole as well), and the explosion idea is just slapstick fun. Both could work, the latter easier than the former.

I'll work my hardest to finish my current clip tonight, I was having trouble with the footage working for the joke in the latter half.

You've inspired me. :D

I'm so sorry I've been completely drawing a blank on this project; I had another AMV idea for Otakon's contest and it completely took over my brain.

I'm still trying to refresh my brain with Death Note for "L you ring my bell"... I can't believe it's not coming to me as easily anymore. D: Maybe it was just a bad night last night? Or just a busy week... while Holy Week coinciding with Pesach makes perfect sense, it means a very busy week for singers who have jobs at both a church and a synagogue...

For now, though, I've found a hilarious clip from Angry Beavers for which I need to rip me some Excel Saga. Which is exciting because I haven't edited with that yet, and I always want to try and branch out for MEPs so that it's not all like "lol it's Death Note Girl." (or these days, Hetalia Girl... shh, DN will always be my true love!)

edit: I know we're dealing with this one for now, but I had an idea for a theme for the next: Masterpiece Theatre? Everything would have to do with the stage - whether it be an actual play/musical/movie musical/opera, or an in-plot stage performance from a movie or TV show (like... dare I say it... Glee >___> I've never actually watched a whole episode of that, for the record). This is mainly because I keep thinking of video ideas to that effect... but it may be too hard to try and pull together a full MEP. But, we'll think about that later.

I'm pretty sure that most of my videos will be from barney. I won't have any time to work on them until after May 15 though.

I did!! I am super slow and didn't look at the username and realize that was you. XD I will look into it!

Right now I'm working on getting a decent quality render for my Ouran clip.... every mpg I use has crazy interlacing and it looks disgusting. Trying AVI but then the aspect ratio gets messed up for whatever reason - it's just time for trial and error, I guess.

That said... I saw just now that we're supposed to get rid of the letterbox for widescreen footage... really? I'm working with Death Note and Hetalia a lot, which are both widescreen so I may be biased... but they're drawn for that. The full effect of a clip will likely be lost if it's cropped. To me, I'd rather have full comedic effect than aspect ratio consistency, especially since the clips will be separated by eyecatches. I think keeping one aspect ratio makes perfect sense if it's supposed to be one smooth, seamless music video, but everything in here will be very separate anyway.

If eliminating the letterbox effect can't be avoided, don't worry about it.
I don't want visual quality compromised any more than necessary.

Awesome, thank you. Hetalia has a lot of ... widescreen-within-widescreen things, almost (those little wiggly frames that sometimes appear on occasion) and anyone who knows Hetalia would know for sure that there's been a change, since the sides would be lopped off.

I just cranked out DN/Ren and Stimpy........ just, again, working on getting rid of those interlace lines without making it a completely massive file.
