I'd rather not go through a 10-hour censoring session again ^^

From speaking directly with Scott Melzer, here's his basic idea of PG13. We're allowed basically one 'fuck' and a few 'shits' and that's it. Otakudom showed at 2 PM on Saturday, widely accessible to younger viewers, and has exactly 7 shits and one fuck. He claims he missed the "FUCK YOO!!" clip I got from Captpan6 and we would have had to have censored it as well, but I'm going to speak with him about next year to holding all clips to Otakudom's standards, because he already kinda contradicted himself by showing Otakudom that early.

And since Babewatch was censored, things are getting odd. AMVS2 had the same exact Eiken footage and was totally fine, as did AMVHell 3.14, so we'll have to challenge Scott a bit to stop being afraid of what people will think. And I think somewhere in there is that Popotan 'touch myself' footage. Either way, we need to somehow convince him that nobody has complained for years about the language or content, he can't start randomly censoring things. Everyone has a good time, and being slightly uncomfortable by the footage is part of the impact.

The no porn rule is definitely in effect, but he claimed that there was actual nudity in the Eiken clip, when there is definitely no nudity in the Eiken clip. I know that for a fact.

I don't think that its right to give him a hard time about this. Its easy for you to say that he's too strict, but he's actually a lot more lenient than you think. And lets not forget that he's the one that will be in trouble if someone complains. I sympathize with him since I'm also in charge of a con's AMV programming. Everybody has rule that they have to follow. That includes Scott, and it should include us (the AMV creators) as well.

Keep it PG-13, kids and let's try to keep the profanity to a minimum. We had to "censor" the Sony POS clip for Otakon. Really the biggest thing is limiting the F-bombs. ;)

I've no intention of giving him a hard time, but something needs to be defined more. People are growing up over the years, not getting worse. If clips were there a mere year or two before and were totally fine, that needs to be addressed. Otakon never received any complaints about it from what I understand, so why the new policy regarding it? Sony POS makes a bit more sense since it gets pretty ridiculous, and was pretty much the only thing I could ever think of that would be worth using that would be that bad. The other stuff is stuff like One Piece to Coming to America.

But still, Scott's now in charge, so he needs to decide it Otakudom is the norm. If so, then cursing isn't an issue except in extreme cases.

I'm a fan of erring on the side of caution...it it seems questionable I tend to just change it or not do it as opposed to having it be a problem later.

I think I'm the only person who thinks you don't NEED cussing to be funny...I don't see it as such a big deal.

Nope, you don't really need 'em at all, but it's a different style of comedy as well. For example, I would never use Katt Williams or comedians like him, because he uses swears like punctuation without purpose or intellect and I consider him to be a low-end comedian because of it. Most of the things I found amusing this year for my clips just ended up having swears in it. Like JoJo's bizarre adventure one and Genshiken one just happened to have bleeps in the audio source, but that wasn't at all the focus of the joke like it was for Sony POS or the One Piece one (Although Genshiken was definitely helped by it I think). Nagato was funny because of how it was said and the fact that it was Nagato saying it to Haruhi which is why I asked Captpan6 for the clip. And One Piece... tell me you can't see Luffy doing that ^^

It's perfectly possible to be funny without swears, but I also came to the realization that it's also possible to be tasteful with swears. The Onion clip is, in my opinion, very tasteful in how it was done because it very clearly lampoons peoples' anger in a very intelligently ironic way. They intentionally use way too many swears to the point you get annoyed at it almost. Like with Katt Williams, just swearing doesn't do anything and eventually you're kind of like 'shut up already,' but the Onion clip, as Deuce said, anyone who has ever worked with electronics knows pretty much exactly what they were doing, and they did it well

The point is whether people enjoy them. When people take responsibility for the use of swearing, I think that's the key. I was very careful with my choices, even if Sony POS ended up raising some flags, but that was because I always thought fanparodies was 18 plus. At 10 PM, it basically is regardless what anyone says :D If I had it all to do over again, I'd still be happy to spend that Sunday censoring it, because in the end, I think it at least started us off with a good air of humor.

I feel like there are two ways to approach this project (if you're going for hilarious juxtaposition) - taking kiddie footage and juxtaposing it against "adult" (but obviously PG-13) audio... or taking "adult" footage and juxtaposing it against kiddie audio. The latter would be a great way to avoid censoring, and this often ends up being the MOST unsettling/hilarious type of video out there.

Case in point: <--That is definitely the kind of WTF factor I'll be going for in most of my clips, I believe. Taking the horrid and making it adorable, ignoring whether or not doing so is remotely possible. I'll absolutely be looking into some morbid series.

This message has been brought to you by the letter L.

...edit: Can we include really really stupid Kidz Bop lyrics? (If any of us can stand to listen to enough to actually get through the editing process)

You are an evil... evil person...

I guess what you're describing is the same stuff that made my brain eject the "I AM THE OTHER WHITE MEAT!" clip. Heh, still love the 2 second reaction delay that one had :D

Oh man, I feel like the explanation to that involves a spoiler... FFS I need to finish that series. (Seriously though, delayed reactions are WIN.)

I really want to use this with DN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8P1oGF2nnA I think I almost died of secondhand embarrassment watching this... I just went looking for songs about chips hoping to find some cute kiddie song to put to DN and... wow. I don't even know. I just don't.
