Well, she's the 'rich girl' archetype, they tend to be like that (Manabi Straight is a fine example...)

Didn't they completely ignore her most of the time?

Double post- In Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight I mean.

Maybe I'm watching too many other shows where the rich girl is a snotty bitch ojou-sama type.

I don't know why but I'm drawing a bit of a parallel with Mugi and Tamaki from Ouran HSHC in that they want to experience 'commoner' things. That is, to do the things regular people do and possibly avoid having your social standing get in the way of having fun. For example, attending this school, doing the part time job to raise money for Yui's guitar, going to Yui's house for the study session, having the sleepover training camp with the club members, etc.

Of course, she doesn't seem unwilling to see girls bonding...

Tune in next week to find out! :P

I've never read the source material so I can only speculate. I suspect it's one of two things: some sort of Sawako cosplay gone wrong (unlikely since so far we've got cute and sexy stuff from her), or it's from some other club and it's a bit of misdirection from KyoAni. I could be totally wrong, though.

Guess we shall have to wait patiently to find out.

Haha, I was correct about the chicken cosplay. I think Sawako-sensei has gone off the deep end.

Episode 8 thoughts and summary:
Spoiler :
This episode is one of my favorites in the amount of character interaction. Plus, it's got a proper concert scene! God, I guess wishing for KyoAni to animate an entire concert is probably out of the question. It would be awesome though.

I liked the intro from Ui at the beginning. And the dynamic between the 2 sisters again.
Azusa appears! Manga readers can now rejoice.
Hehe, new class assignments. Now the group is like Lucky Star with the "tsundere" character in a separate class from the "genki girl", the "dojikko" and the "ojou".
I like the moment where Mio teases Ritsu about them being separated and then Ritsu teases back using Mugi.
Poor Mio. At least you now have Nodoka (who apparently got separated from traditional partner, Yui).
The animal cosplay. Sawako, what were you thinking? I'm sure some potential members were scared away.
Maid cosplay. Ritsu's maid cafe came to fruition. Oddly, the only person wearing the costume that fits the type is Mugi.
Mio = kawaii. Sawako = bordering on obsessed.
The Jazz club is seemingly the Light music club's rival.
Mio and her fluffy lyrics. :D
Covering for Yui - this is why Mio is cool.
Azusa barely moving and then you see her feet = awesome scene.

Next episode: Azusa is Sawako's new target!?

And Haruhi has all but destroyed this show's hype.
I suppose it could be worse.

I disagree about haruhi killing the show after watching ep9 where my reaction was:
<OropherZero|KON> lol Azusa is going to rise above Mio in popularity and the show having 2 tsunderes is going to... >_>

so yeah Azusa won the show back im sure lol

Azusa is mini-Mio. Poor girl.

Spoiler :
Azusa gets ambushed with questions like Yui did when she joined a year ago(!).
MODIFIED OPENING! Gosh, Azusa is tiny.
[flowers]Yui-senpai. Senpai... Senpai![/flowers]
Azusa says she's a beginner. Hah, sandbagger.
I LOVE the bit where Ritsu tosses Yui aside.
Sawako-sensei is a bad influence. So is Mugi in a way.
The cat ears from the preview appear. Oh, god!
"Mio's inner monologue".
Mio gets busted.
Ritsu's solution to get Azusa to stay: blackmail. Big-sis Mio rejects that idea.
Sawako = cosplay ninja.
Yui is some kind of guitar genius. Lots of talent, lack of knowledge.
Azusa, like Yui did, realizes she must resist the delicious cake and tea.
The "Macross Moment". When does the single for this song come out?

The episode mirrors the first one in that the new member is convinced to stay in the club after temptation with sweets and then a musical performance. Of course, the first one sucks and the latest one is actually good.

And next episode should be a rehash of episode 4. To 11.

I'm sure Mio's glad to have someone on her side now. Too bad that the Dark-haired Duo™ is still outnumbered by the Light-haired Loonies™ (especially if you include Sawako-sensei).

I have return from the road trip from CT to Florida which is the reason I didn't have time to talk about the last episode.

Episode 9 is Azu-nyan time! >_<

(with an updated OP sequence to boot as well)

Spoiler :
It was an interesting episode since Azusa can be identified by the REALLY skeptical viewers who's wondering how and why the girls are goofing off and not taking the music club seriously enough. Later on in the episode when she was watching another band play, she found out the difference in their style of playing.

Now for the moe moe kyun~ moments! Wearing Mugi's yuri goggles makes this episode even more awesome!

Spoiler :
- Yui being called sempai.....yeah something is not right with that!
- Azusa is good, DAMN good! Was anyone able to identify those rockers that appeared when she was playing?
- There, there, Azusa. Good girl....~! (click me!)
- Mugi approves of Yui feeding Azusa like what a couple does. (click me!) 8-)
- Cake goes near, cake goes far, cake goes near.....(click me!)
- AZU-NYAN!!! For now on she'll now be referred to as Azu-nyan! (click me!) >_<
- Ohhh, Mio! Become one with the neko mimi!
- Ooooo, now it's Az-usagi! (click me!)
- More cosplay fun courtesy from Sawaka-sensei!
- Azu-nyan discovered that Yui knows jack squat on any guitar terminology but is able to play by doing.

It's been speculated that the two "rocker" scenes were parodies of Azusa as Jimmy Page and Kurt Cobain. I originally thought Jeff Beck for the second one, but later data pushed me toward Cobain. Specifically the fact that he is one of the noted players of the same model guitar that Azusa uses (Fender Mustang) and there are photos of him wearing the type of sunglasses in that image.
