Tales of the Abyss

Postby angelx03 » Sat Oct 11, 2008 9:36 am

You guys know the story (if not, then look it up!), and for anyone who has played the game for the PS2 should be very familiar with the concepts and characters presented! :D

And with that in mind, the first 2 episodes (yeah, some Japanese channels actually did a double-episode premiere) showed that Sunrise REALLY did a nice job adapting this! They threw in a few additions of their own like introducing Natalia early, but overall it's pretty damn faithful and nicely paced. Hell, they even used the exact same OP theme song for the game. Obviously the guys of Bandai-Namco are looking over Sunrise's shoulder.
The first 2 episodes ended at a point where Luke and Tear and then later Jade defeated the Liger Queen (with Jade's FUCKIN' INDIGNATION!!! BWAHAHAHA ) and then Luke and Tear getting arrested by Jade.
Of course, what makes this show awesome is.....TEAR!!!! Image

So cute!

I thought it was neat how the used the same music for the anime opening as the game opening.

She hawt D:

Though I've always wanted to play the Tales of series...

The thing that stopped me was the limited areas the games were released. I still regret not buying Symphonia... I went and got Windwaker instead D:

Episode 3....ENTER THE AMAZING GUY!!! :o

Yup, they included it in this episode along with....
- The Oracle Knights made their attack onto the Tartarus.

- Jade's fonic artes getting sealed by Largo

- Luke turning into a pussy when he made his first human kill.

- "I'LL KILL YOU BASTARDS!, " Anise shouted as she fell off after getting knocked off the Tartarus!

- And because of Luke's pussiness, Tear got injured. :?
Next episode.....Dist is introduced!!!

ah, I love the Tales series, I've beaten Symphonia and Vesperia. I'm working on Phantasia and Abyss right now, and love both of them. I hope that the Abyss anime gets licensed in the US.

Episode 4! You know, I have come to a conclusion that Liam O'Brian's rendition of Dist the Reaper is FAR better and more maniacally hilarious than the original Japanese.
They compacted some of the scenes especially ones in Coral Castle (which means no surprise encounters with the Sword Dancer  ) with the gang's first fight with Arietta in the lobby, not at the rooftop. But a lot of important scenes were still in tact like the probable source of Guy's phobia.
More faithful adaptation for episodes 5 and 6 especially near the end of episode 6...
...where Van seems suspicious and Asch looks like Luke! Well, no DUH!!!

Though Sunrise did add one new thing in episode 6, and that's showing a flashback of Natalia and Luke when they were kids. It was actually pretty cute.
Tear getting scared in the dark factory was full of LOL.

So next week they're headed towards the Zao Ruins and then to Chesedonia.

I wonder if they will do what they did with the Tales of Symphonia anime and stop halfway. We can at least assume they are going to go most of the way because
they show the underground scene where Luke cuts off his hair in the opening.
But will they follow the game all the way to the end I wonder? I certainly hope they do since I am enjoying the nostalgia factor.

well... I'd have to say this is far better than the Tales of Symphonia anime. But I still like the Tales of Eternia anime...

Episode 7, a.k.a. the Asshatery of Luke fon Fabre. The anime did a better job in conveying it though. Few changes here and there....
- Guy got the cursed seal during his battle against Sync in the Zao Ruins.

- The party did encounter Legretta in the Deo Pass, but they didn't really fight her. The anime did showed a nice flash back of Tear when she was younger and was trained by Legretta. Oh man, that conversation Legretta had with them ended up with Jade totally losing his composure!
Next episode, the party finally makes it to Akzeriuth, and this where Luke is going to get his just desserts!

Episode 8 is where shit hits the fan, and I have to give props to Sunrise because these scenes were much better portrayed here than the game. And that was a pretty slick cliffhanger they pulled.
