There are 2 different versions

The one I bought is 2 disc with japanese audio with english subs

and the other Special One has some bonus discs and such. Not sure what it has on that.
That Special one costs 35 dollars though it still a good price for 9 episodes O_O

I bought the Special Edition preordered on Amazon for 30 dollars. The only difference is that it comes with a cd containing the Opening Theme, the Closing Theme, and 2 W.I.P. versions of the opening.

Thats the exact version I bought today. Best Buy also had the non-special version for $20. It's not a bootleg, it just has no dub. They're just putting it out to get it out. And to make some quick cash off of people like me who could care less about the dub.

After seeing that dub comparison video that was posted on /m/, I'm definitely reconsidering the purchase of the later version.

If only ADV could have done something similar many years ago, maybe their company wouldn't be keeling over. Then again, it might also put a lot of dubbers out of work if nobody wants to buy the English version.

That's not gonna happen. The audience for anime that loves Dubs easily dwarfs that of the sub only lovers.

Case and point, VHS. Yes, it's a dead media, but up to its death, subbed vhs were ALWAYS more expensive than the dub despite the obvious production costs for each version.

In the land of DVDs, nobody cares anymore since you can have both, but I still think in terms of a mass audience, you'll get the anime out to more people with a good dub. ADV's dub jobs and Bang Zoom Entertainment and Ocean Group being my fav dub companies...

Of course, gags like Love Hina come to mind [one of my friends who only wants to watch English version promptly stopped after the first dvd, despite the subtitles anyway... Yes, it's that BAD]

But thankfully, the dub quality is getting higher these days, if only JYB didn't play every feckin' main role now...

Oh yeah, I know it's also not the fact that it's nine eps to dvd.

Ragnarok Animation[decent game, blah* anime] was a dub/sub title dvd and had a whopping 9 eps each volume sorta...

Very true, Love Hina was godawful.

On a side note, I just watched Ep 6, which I hadn't seen the uncensored version of yet. Man oh man, that was frikin' hilarious.
