I try to write some manga myself, and something weird like that is something I would do......like "it sounds like light, but its related to the night, night=evil, so Light (yagami) =evil"
whats kainda funny is that Ed's 5'6", and he's taller than me. ............and he's called short..............*sigh*

I actually liked the "Moon" and "Light" thing. It makes him unique, which is probably what the author wanted, but it isn't senseless like using the kanji for "River" and making his name read "Bullfighter".
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

:D maybe River and Bullfighter made some sort of sense in Japan
(River kanji-->Hiragana-->bullfighter kanji??).....but probably not.

I think the moon/Light thing gives the people that superinterperet things something to do, other that try to figure out a "deeper motivation" behind Light and L's plans(JK :D .......but I really think it's there for the interperetation though, since Deathnote is one of those intricate series)

L=Jesus

ZOMG!

I loved this episode! :D
I have read the manga so I haven't bothered to watch much of the episodes but had to watch this one because, well, L dies.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well executed it was. I loved the rain scene, where L pretended he didn't hear Light, forcing him to go into the rain as well. Also all dialouge between Light and L was deeply intruiging.

I think it was all done very beautifully, and I like the fact that they strayed from the manga (neither the rain scene nor the foot scene was in it originally from what I remember... and I think I'd remember such a thing :P)

It gave a strong impression and many things about L were subtle in its revealing which I found appealing.

Too bad L's inner monoluge at his death wasn't there... But oh well
[MOD 403: spoiler tags added]
Did anyone else notice the Biblical aspect of this episode?
L's washing Light's feet is symbolic to Jesus' washing Judas' feet at the Last Supper. The purpose of this scene in the Bible was to show that Jesus was not above servitude and that he was not just a leader, but also a servant to mankind. He washed the feet of all of the Apostles, including Judas, the one who sold him to the Romans and ultimately caused his death. It is also said that of all of the Apostles, Judas was the one who was closest to Jesus, despite the fact that he was already planning his betrayal. I think that this mirrors L and Light perfectly. The fact that this episode aired during Holy Week is no coincidense either. The adding of this scene to the story was a wise and well planned move, bringing deep meaning to L's death beyond the obvious. There is no longer any doubt in my mind that this is the best show ever made.
I haven't given it much thought, really... The moon shines, but only in the dark. That's about as far as I felt the need to go, because it's hardly an importsant part of the story and I was satisfied with that answer and thinking that such a name was chosen on a whim.
now that L died, the series can only go downhill, unless it strays from the manga or fits in some really good Mellow action scenes. Personally, I think the N arc has nothing on the L arc and that L is a lot smarter than his two students and Light put together, so watching Light fight N after watching him fight L is like watching a snail race right after the Interlagos Grand Prix. I do wonder if they'll keep the Gameboy Advance SP ornaments on Near's Christmas tree, though. I'd like that just for the nonsensical atmosphere.
And just to put it out there, what does everyone think about the OST? I really liked the BGM, especially L's theme. It's good background music for drinking vodka and playing chess (and you really haven't lived until you've played drunken chess).

L:"Ish yerr turrn Laiiht"
Light:*passes out*

L:"hey dere beaudifuuh"
Misa:"...hey there ugly." (lame, I know :? )

In my own oppinion death notes story line scenario is not good why ?

because for starters their current state of civilization would have not been acheived it would be in chaos because there are these death gods that can control the life of a human being. Lets take it to the point of view as like "L" would rate it there are at least 5% of a deathgod being jelous 5% of them being bored = to at least 10% in total so lets say at least there are 10 death gods with an average of 10% each of dropping a death note to the 2 only given reason and im sure there are more reason like gambling & love and stuff so 10% x 10 death gods = to 100% drop rate of a deathnote. So overall the world scenario at first ipisode of death note would have not accured it would have been in total chaos.

This occured to me when I first saw L, what would L's oppinions be when he would watch the death note anime ?

answer
BAD anime (sorry guys)

you're overanalyzing it, stop picking apart every little flaw and try to be entertained.
I don't really care if you like it or not, but you didn't really give any solid reasons for disliking it.

the Shinigami don't go around killing everyone left and right, and there is no evidence of a death god altering the course of society
(and probablilities don't add up like that. if you have a coin and flip it you have a 50% chance of it landing on the "up" side. if you have 2 coins and flip them you have a 75% chance of at least one of them landing "up", not 100%)

quite right they are not the ones who is killing left and right but...

they are like guns with the ability of randomly choosing a person from which it can be used. Lets give it an example in the time of wild wild west there are guns without a hard law and what we got... many many deaths right ? no progress actually people in that time live in fear it was not until a hard law was implemented before real progress was made. What bugs me most is that deathnote is much much worse than the wild wild west because they randomly drop the "gun"(deathnote) who ever finds it kills that is all to it right ? to kill. In deathnote there are no laws only kill no other oposite power to stop it by supernatural means i mean. The only good thing about it is that it has a good detective plot to it.

Actually there are two ways to counter the Death Note, one was shown in the movie, and the other was the pilot story.

The creative way requires 2 Death Notes. Lets assume Light wanted to kill George W, and George W knows that Light is going to kill him soon. If George W finds another Death Note, and writes his own name with a date 20 days later, then George W will die 20 days later. So if Light tries to kill him today, it will not work, because Light's Death Note can not override George W's Death Note, since it was written first. The eventual outcome is the same, but it cancels out someone else's actions with a Death Note.

The other way to reverse a death already written in a Death Note is to just erase the name out of the note book, and the person will miraculously revive.

I think one of those extra rules from the anime eyecatch says that this method doesn't work.

@Vo!D: You're creating sttistics and behavioural patterns in your own head that don't quite work in the real world. That's because

A) not everyone who finds a Death Note will believe it's true or test it, in fear that it is true
B) not everyone who effectively used a Death Note would do so in a global scale, maybe just for personal vendettas and such. In fact, that would represent the great majority of DN users, in which case the notebook would be no different from a gun, knife or crowbar.
C) law or no law, people are killed and the police doesn't crack every case. Most Death Notes would go unnoticed.

I'd also like to point out that your math for "100% droppage" is completely and utterly forced. You're manipulating the train of thought to reach an erroneous result with the avail of "rationalizing". Also, "10% times 10 death gods" isn't 100% of all death gods, but one death god. Your formula is wrong.

You do have a point that the Death Notes could have altered the course of History, but History has been changed by death of important people enough times for that to be assimilated. Maybe someone wrote down Adolf Hitler's name that one cold day in the bunker?

hm... I really don't remember a rule about removing or erasing names, but I could be wrong. I just remember that it worked in the original story pilot.

And Gepetto is right, Vo!D. 10% of 10 DeathGods = 1 dropped Death Note, not a percentage.

And on another side note, I still believe L is autistic.

Gep, you're right, once a name is written, it can't be erased to revive.

Full Death Note Rules

It's under the 11th set of rules, "How To Use It XI"

15th set of rules is pretty interesting too (XV for your people who don't know your numerals). It's possible to cancel the death of the name written in a death note if it is written in another death note within 0.6 seconds.
