19 would sound pretty unreasonable for this particular series. Even 37 seems almost on the short side of what'd be expected given the manga's length.

Though I heard the later parts of the manga after that certain upcoming event wasn't as good. Maybe Madhouse is planning to cut those out.

they can't cut them out, as it brings everything to a conclusion but what they can do is stop the series mid-way and make a season 2 after this certain event, at least they are going to have to change the OP for the second part of the story, it'll work like how kaleido star is divided into two seasons =D

All right, I went ahead and marathoned episodes 13-15. And I have to say, episode 15 is by the far the most screwed up episode I've seen from this series!
And Light was SO DAMN CLOSE!!! If it weren't for L pickpocketing Misa's cellphone, he would have been finished. :x

And Misa wouldn't have to bear all that torture!
Now I'm really curious of how Light is going to pull this one out!
Or else Rem will kill him. And not to mention Misa gave up the Death Note which means her shinigami eyes and all memories related to the Death Note will be gone.
This series captivated me. I really enjoyed the deep meaning to the story and the main character, Light. It shows how he becomes corrupted...and the Death Note changes his life, turning him 'evil'. You cant really tell who the "bad guys" are in this series...which really makes it unique. Also, the animation was done really well and I can tell alot of work was put into the creatation of the opener and credits. A+ on the music as well.

there's not an obvious protaganist....heck, Ryuk could be the main character!

DN allows you to pick your sides, your heroes, whatever. Thats what makes it super-great

Now it's time for the start of Light's 'master plan'... of course arc 2 follows (ep17 I imagine starts it), dubbed the 'boring' arc which fans don't really like... but it's important...

the company must have blown its budget on the explosive chip eating scene resulting in the current depletion in animation :D

Damn, episode 16 was one hell of a brain buster! :x
But the gist is that Light planned to "relinquish" his ownership of the Death Note in order to "lose" the memories of any actions he made with it. Now with his and Misa's Death Note gone, their personalities pretty much changed which confused the heck out of L. And the episode ended with more criminals being killed due to Kira's actions which nearly doesn't make sense according to L.
Next episode is going to be a doozy!
Just what the heck is Light's dad doing in the car?
Misa calling L a pervert and his reaction was pretty funny!

Ah, Death Note. How I love thee. While I stopped watching the series actively when it got licensed, I've read the manga out to where it's been released in the US.

That being said, I'm not sure why some people dislike the next arc of the series so much. Given, it has a different atmosphere than a lot of the rest of the series, but I think that they did it well. The twists and turns are well done and executed with the same style as the rest of the series. I look forward to seeing it when Viz releases it.
What about the buried death note? Can't he still reclaim that? Or does he forget its location?
And very nice, spoiler tags at last.
