Also the broadcast premiere on Kanon 2006 is October 5th!

Well, I got a chance to check out the promo stuff found in the disc. It basically has clean version the OP and ED sequences and 4 promo trailers. I believe the first 3 are already available in some streaming site.

The 4th promo is new and extended, and it shows a montage of some of the scenes of the TV series. You can even hear the characters talking. Animation will not dissappoint (no duh), and some of the scenes like Makoto slapping Yuuichi and Ayu crashing onto a tree look REALLY painful!

Though I still can't shake off Kyon's image every time Yuuichi starting talking!

Now the OP sequence......HOLY SHIT!!! My computer starting lagging a bit because the whole thing brought tears to my eyes! The way they did those moving angle shots while each girl's hair flowing so naturally makes me wonder where the hell does KyoAni get their money and resources. Mai does have a cool, badass pose, and Ayu is still as cute as ever. You need to see it for yourself!

The ED sequence is pretty typical since it shows Ayu running across the snow. I bet someone can makes good use of that though.

Uguuu~~~!!! Episode 1 was one heck of a nostagia trip. I remember most of the main scenes from Toei's version awhile back only this time it's far better animated. Not to mention the pacing is solid, and the insertion of some parallel flashbacks should keep the viewer curious of what's to come. And then there's the music; catchy as ever. And not to mention I felt really cold when watching this. 8-)

So for anyone who hasn't experience the previous version (of which I DON'T reccommend watching if you're watching KyoAni's version; it'll save you from discovering the twists).....
....basically it's your introduction with Yuuichi coming back to the city and meeting up with his cousin Nayuki. Ayu is introduced in the direct fashion while other main characters are more indirect.

Ayu is even cuter than before (that twirl she did.......gah! >_<), and I still can't get Kyon out of my mind everytime Yuuichi spoke (maybe we'll get a Haruhi reference snuck in the future. Or better yet...... ). Animation is still as slick as ever, and it would be interesting how KyoAni tackles a 24 episode series.

Well, sit back and enjoy the ride, but don't get too comfortable! :D

Ah, I have been waiting for this, and episode 1 was indeed a treat. I have seen the previous series already, and I must say Kyo-ani is already demonstrating their superior animation skills here, as backgrounds are moving, movements are more fluid, and ofcourse the insert of random side things not realy important for the story, but adds life to the series that Kyo-ani likes to do.

In one of the scenes where Nayuki? (I think, blue heaired one, can't remember names good atm) turns around very animatedly, I coulda sworn I saw Haruhi at that moment ;p

Yes, Nayuki is the blue-haired one; the first girl Yuuichi met.

The new series seems both more rushed and slower paced at the same time. Characters that didn't show up later in the previous series are either briefly introduced or make cameo appearances. But certain scenes are either expanded or weren't part of the first incarnation. Overall, I can't say if this version is better yet, except for the animation, which is very impressive.

KyoAni also manages to fit in jokes relating to their previous series again. In TMoHS, we had Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid references.

In episode 1 there was an AIR reference:
SpoilerGard™ wrote:A (delivery?) truck painted like the box of juice that Misuzu likes passes by. Of course AIR had it's Kanon reference...

In episode 2 there were at least 3 The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya references I noted:
SpoilerGard™ wrote:1. After Yuuichi introduces himself to the class, Kaori says, "That was a rather normal introduction." Yuuichi responds, "If there are any introductions that aren't normal, I'd like to see them." Of course, since the VA for Yuuichi was also Kyon in TMoHS, he DID see one.

2. After Yuuichi gets lost in the school, he meets up with Kaori. He says Kyon-like, "As I turned around, Misaka Kaori was standing there." To which Kaori asks, "What are you giving a narration for?"

3. Kaori shortly thereafter says, "You were acting suspicious, so I thought you might be a spy from some secret agency." Yuuichi replies, "I'm just an ordinary transfer student." Itsuki, the transfer student in TMoHS, was not ordinary and was from a secret agency.

And finally, I want taiyaki... Uguu~~

And then there's the jam scene and Yuuichi getting lost in the school.

More awesome fun in Kanon episode 3! Specifically the antics between Yuuichi and the new girl Makoto he picked up were really hilarious. Like for example,
Makoto's reaction of Yuuichi dropping a piece of konnyaku down her shirt. I didn't expect her to be THIS feisty and energetic, and KyoAni were able to animate her really well.
The "token sick girl" Shiori gets introduced as well, and I have to say her entrance was pretty cool (excuse the pun). 8-)

Ayu glomps Yuuichi again with more "Uguu-ness" though
she did mention she was looking for something. Also she mentioned there "used" be a cake store there and has no idea what a cell phone is........

Episode ends with
Mai in the school hallway carrying a sword and slashing something. What could it be?!!! :o

Hopefully next episode we'll see
more badassness of Mai because her story is awesome! 8-)
And I have to say, the falling snow scenes had me FREEZING!

man, kyoani sure know how to animate ;p That scene with Makoto and the fridge was  ;p

Is the voice for Yuuichi the same as Kyon in Haruhi? his character is resembling Kyon more and more as the series progresses. I even saw some of Kyon's Sarcasm subtly in this episode. Not that i'm complaining, it had me chuckling a few times through the series, and will keep the series entertaining if they keep going that route :p

Ang Uguuu! Ayu is sooo cute ;p

Lets see if we get to see some Mai action next episode, and what the gods of animation at Kyo-Ani has instore for us for her battle scenes..... anticipation....high....

Yup, the same male seiyuu, Tomokazu Sugita who also did Kyon, is doing Yuuichi as well. Parallels between Kyon and Yuuichi are pretty much inevitable (especially if you look for those Tsukimiya Ayu no Taikutsu shorts  ).

Interestingly enough this is how Yuuichi acts in the original visual novel so it could have been one heck of a coincidence.

I think this anime has by far the best animated snowfall sequences in existance...

how good do i think it is you say?

Well, if you show me a gentle x-mas morning with small snowfall in a painting OR IN A FILMSTRIP, I'd say this one beats that. I'd DIE to see such a beautiful snowfall...

Technically, AIR is Kanon in the summer... :P

since the original Kanon (game and anime) predates Air.

Kanon and Air are both super seller games back in the East.

Fact that both have a fantastical soundtrack from h-game song artists: I've Sound, doesn't hurt either [yay for h-game music!]

Probably the only games in existance where with or WITHOUT hentai endings they'd rock the house...

I hope this anime keeps on going ^_^
