Lyrs: The way I think of it, I see it a lot like Back to the Future, except instead of just time travel, they change dimensions.

I concur with what Lyrs said about too much "Teamwork and friendship" crap, but I was satisfied with the very end.
Adult Rika somehow goes back in time and prevents Takano from becoming a bitch.
I enjoyed the ending to Kai, but if you ask me, I'd say that only the first season is worth recommending. The animation is more satisfying, and there was a lot more psychotic murder which I do love so much. If they ever continue releasing the dub, I'm not buying Kai.

Making Rei (third season) is a mistake. They should just leave it as it is.
Though a Higurashi Fumoffu would make me splurge. :P

Just finished watching the ending to Kai.Well,it was satisfying but truly,Kai left the psychotic stuff of 1st season.And,just like Ishbalan said,that was the major interest of 1st season.
3rd season - I really can't see anything new happening.Apart from the fact that Kai's ending was really weird...like an adult Rika.

I watched that a long while back. Keiichi's hand glew with an awesome power.

It told him to win poker.

I kind of interpreted it as...

adult Rika asking Takano whether she wanted to live or die, and Takano chose death so she died with her parents in the bus crash, and the rest is a happy dream, or heaven or something where she is still together with her parents. Maybe I'm wrong though and Rika made it so her parents simply didn't die or something.

In all these scenarios, Rika is the default observer. Her actions and what she sees determines the course of the future possible worlds. However, since she is a part of the dimensional fabric, it is impossible for her to go back in time and stop the massacre at its root; the root being the death Takano's parents and her suffering.

However, as Hanyuu exists, there exists other entities outside of the fabric of dimensional space/time. This other entity is Frederica. She exists as herself, but she is also the cumulation of Rika's experiences in each dimensional fold. Rika's knowledge and emotions becomes Frederica's own through each of Rika's dimensional travel. It is Frederica that we see in front of young Takano. It is she who changed the passage of events and lead events to there peaceful ending.

Did you get that info from playing the game/visual novel?

She actually is not Furude Rika, but Frederica Bernkastel ^**^;;
The end of Higurashi Kai is the prelude of Piece 52 of the game/novel. I think 3rd season will start from there. °O°;

And in the new work of 7th Expansion, a completely different one called "Umineko no naku koro ni", there are 2 characters, Frederica and Lamdadelta...
...that are the true essence of Rika and Takano: they are 2 witches and they say in a hidden scenario that the've fought for 100 years, but in the end Frederica won the bet.

I like this series as much as the next person, but Kai was rather a disappointment to me. I was glad to have my questions answered, but the animation wasn't as good (In my humble opinion) and they focused too much on 'love' and 'friendship.' In the first season, it was about trying to overcome your own demonic nature for the sake of those you love. This... Was sappy. No better way to put it, I'm afraid.

I'm not dissing Kai, I just don't care for it as I cared for its original. Which means even if it becomes licensed, I'm not going to buy it. To be frank, I think I will always prefer season one.

And yes, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Matsuri is apparently (Apparently) coming out in the fall of next year, date unknown. I'm not actually looking forwards to this. In fact, I may not even watch it at all.
