Yea its prolly best not to go on popular opinon when it comes to anime. I suggest looking on these two sites before listening to what people have to say.

those are good. if what your friends say corresponds with what is said here...then get the series anyway and help the anime cause.

I normally don't listen to what other people say (unless I see it for myself and actually agree with it) because they may like different genres and therefor, a complete opposite opinion. I agree with OmniStrata, after all, you won't know until you watch right?!?
