I've found that one of the reasons I enjoy this anime so much is because of Jet. I am not sure if he is intended to seem african american or not but he is in my eyes. And they don't take things to far to where it just seems styrotypical. Like as cool as it is, it dosen't try to be too cool and has it's moments where it lets it's hair down.

Also, without it there would be no Faye.

ed there is never any character as odd as ed when everyone else around her is so normal. i went the longest time thinking she was a he wich was quiet embassesing when i leanred the truth. as well as spike hes got some cool moves and keeps a cool head when things go bad. as well as viciuse they were friends turned enemys and you cant complain about a guy with a sword cuse he will cut your head off if you make him mad.

This anime is truely awesome. Good storyline and one badass main character to go with it. When I was younger, Spike was just the man and he still is! I loved this anime so much I actually got a dog just like Ein.

Spike is awsome but Ed's father owns spike in the only fight they had. That was just freakin hilarious.

I think what set this anime apart from most is the real life aspect it had to it. Its not just somthing that was out of the air it was somthing that really hit the heart. The movie really set this apart from everything else though. Great action great plot great ending.
Oh god, that black dude with the afro is always making those damn trash ass music hip hop amvs...he needs to do something with techno or rock....

Cowboy Bebop wis my favorite anime. I can watch it over and over again. It's got so many great points, great action sequences, damned hillarious at times, fantastic animation, cool music, some of the greatest fictional characters around, superb story.....yeah. I really love this show. And it did have a real life aspect to it. The main characters weren't nice, they weren't there to protect the innocent, they just tried to make a living. The ending was great too. Sad yes, but great. My mom hated the ending.

Cowboy Bebop will always be the standard all other series will be held up to. many have come since but way too many have fail to reach even close to the heights that bebop hit. Awesome music, great characters, even the minor ones, Great story lines, both funny, sad, mind blowing and tragic.... Yes, the bebop is no more but what a ride it took us on, and now to those that are discovering it today.... See You Space Cowboy!!!!!

now if they ever make a COWGIRL Ed series, as was joked in the previews after the Frig monster esp, I will die and be happy...snickers....
Of course that one would not be as good as Bebop but what a way to die...laughing at Ed, Erin and their mis-adventures..... This last bit was a joke for those that are just so jealous of how good bebop was.....smiles

If you think about it, Cowboy Bebop has had one of the longest runs on T.V.

They are still showing it on Cartoon Network on Saturdays.

I believe it has set a standard for many anime's to come.

I think it can be like those movies they show on one of the old movie channel

"The Essentials"

I haven't seen of the 'The Essentials' of anime yet but I am wokin on it.

At least I've seen 'most' of Cowboy Bebop. The funny thing is without it many of my friends wouldn't have the style that they are and the clothes they wear, which is funny.

Here's my .02

Yes, I agree it is an "essential" of anime. That's why it remains my #1 on my top 10 (and probably will forever and ever, amen :P).

So what makes it "essential"?

For me, it's how the series as a whole is constructed. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can watch...say...episode 5, then episode 18...and they won't be completely lost as to what's going on. Even Spike's backstory, which spans over 5 eps, is done in such a way that you don't have to see them all to understand it.

Most of the series I've seen (which, I will admit, I haven't seen dozens like many of you), require that you see them in order, or at least see more than one. Cowboy Bebop is great because one can pop in any of the DVD's, randomly pick an episode, and enjoy.

And on other notes...it has great character development, animation that still stands up to what's being produced today, and a killer soundtrack.

In short, Watanabe is my hero. :)
