The past of his immediate family is explained in the manga if I remember correctly. Dunno about his father's legacy though. Don't really remember too much since I haven't read it in a long time. This part of the story was kinda just a side plot while Kenshin was practically being suicidal since he had nothing else better to do.

sano never says anything about his past or anything except when we see flash backs from when the sakihoti (prob spelled wrong again) was framed and killed in the tv series.

i think that i will go to best buy and see if they have it. and if not i will try amazon.com

When people refer to the Rurouni Kenshin "manga" I'm guessing that it means the actual comic book. Am I wrong? Either way, is the tv series supposed to have been a remake of the comic or vice versa?

The other thing that fellow fans of this show keep saying thats confusing me is sometimes refering to the show as Rurouni Kenshin and other times calling it Samurai X. In fact, one time I read someone's topic reply and this guy said "I think that Samurai X is way better than RK" Now, up until my last trip to the US of A in 2004 I had never even heard the show being called Rurouni Kenshin. I first heard that name when a friend told me about it and I guessed that it must be the original japanese name for the show. The only time I ever saw "Samurai X" being used on anything having to do with the show was the motion picture about Shigure and a surviving group of the Bokomatsu trying to assasinate some European ambassador in an attempt to overthrow the Japanese government. All things considered, is there a clear difference?

RK is the name that the USA calls Samurai X. i have heard that in SX it is alot more gory and is more detailed than in RK. that is the only difference that i know of. but there could be more than just that. but this is all that i know. :)

actually, from what i can gather, the rurouni kenshin name refers to his tasks in the Tokugawa era (after the war). generally, people use samurai x to refer to the episodes set during the war, when kenshin still killed.

and yes, samurai x is definately bloodier. there is also a movie called samurai x that deals with the war figures and a european assassin. no clue why its refers to as samurai x, since it deals with tokugawa kenshin. oh well....

The reason why the gory OVA is called Samurai X and the TV series is called Rurouni Kenshin is because MediaBlasters, the company that bought the US license to the TV show basically bought the equivalent rights to the name, "Rurouni Kenshin". So ADV, another company, who bought the Rurouni Kenshin OVA and the RK Movie, could not really market their license under the same name, so they went with "Samurai X". A name that is already used for the international release (Hong Kong and some other country) of Rurouni Kenshin. However, the VHS subs of Samurai X from ADV do refer to the OVAs as "Rurouni Kenshin".

I think it just really comes down to 2 different licenses for the TV show, and the Movie and OVAs.

@.@ Licensing makes my head spin.

Taxes also make my head spin, but that's a whole other ball of wax.

I think the character that first drew me into RK was Sano. If only because he was so much like another character I had made up long before I had even *heard* of Rurouni Kenshin. Then I got hooked by Kenshin's batosai coolness and rurouni charm. ^_^

Or should I say ^_^x

At least, until you check out the reversible covers on the three individual OVAs, which actually has "Ruroni Kenshin" titling.

Not sure why they didn't use the Kenshin name, since apparently they were allowed to have it on the covers (even though not on the outside).

Yeah, I know! Sano's just so sarcastic and funny, but when he gets serious he's incredible! I like Kenshin, but I still prefer Sano to him...hehe, I declared Sano as my fav. character from the moment Isaw him in the opening. ^_^

3 OVAs? What are you talking about? :? As far as I know there are only 2 OVAs ( Reflections and Trust & Betrayal) and then the motion picture Samurai X. Speaking of those dvds, does anyone out there know what OVA stands for?

Apparently Trust and Betrayal are seperated sometimes.

Odd that they would have it on the inside cover and not on the outside. :?
