Sano hooked me into the show. He reminded me of a character I made up for a sci-fi story.

It was wierd!

Catching the wave

Postby jmac » Thu Feb 02, 2006 8:42 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm a long time fan of this particular anime. In fact, with the exception of the pokemon craze (98-99) this is the only anime I've really stayed interested in over time. I live in the city of Lima, Peru of South America. Fortunately Cartoon Network does broadcast here and I have the right kind of TV to see it in English. I got into it in 2003 when my younger brother told me about it and I began watching with him. During that year we went to the same school and my mom was also a teacher at that school. School got out at 3pm but my mom almost always had to stay later. Samurai X, as it's called here, came on weekdays at 3:30pm and I remember running home with my brothers every afternoon to get home on time to watch this anime. At the end of the year it went off the air and I saw every episode from when Kenshi, as he's called here, first met Kori, as she's called here, until the season where the gang meets up with these fung shauy tribes duking it out with magic rulers.

It mysteriously returned to Cartoon Network last year in September. I was overjoyed to find it showing five times a week only this time five episodes came on all in back to back package on Saturday nights from 10:30 to 1:00. I caught from the end of the Shishio season and watched through the Christian, Black Nights, and finally the Fung Shuay season again. Unfortunately due to health and family issues I didn't see past the episode where one ninja from either the water or wind tribe throws a deadly dart of some sort at Kori and she's mortally wounded. Kenshi in his retaliation uses his hidden mitsurugi technique and hacks through one of those magic barriers with those whacked out rulers. Are these episodes those "fillers" that so many fellow members have mentioned in past replies? :?:

Pretty much everything after Shishio is what is referred to as "filler".

Which is seriously twisted since the manga continues on beyond the Shishio arc. And what's this about magic rulers? :?

There were these feng shui masters and they were channeling energy and stuff through these things that looked like rulers. Maybe they actually were rulers, I don't know. As for the filler, people call the third season that because its basically a bunch of short story arcs without much overall plot or character development, but its not just a bunch of completely disassociated, random episodes. I think that the third season would have been better if it has some sort of overarching storyline, but I still enjoyed it even so. Though it seems like a lot of people felt cheated and dissapointed.

Astounded

Alright, that makes things seem a bit more clear. Come to think of it, the "filler" episodes despite having fresh new storylines were considerably shorter than the Shishio season. Back in 2003 they seemed just as long and interesting to me but after seeing them again towards the end of last year I noticed that most of them didn't last more than 10 episodes.

So what does happen at the end of those Fung Shuay episodes and how does the tv series really end?

Feng shui masters channelling energy through rulers?? :?

Isn't feng shui the art of harmoniously aranging furniture and decorations in a room to promote health and wellbeing?

Pirated Dvds

Postby jmac » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:11 pm

One of the advantages of living in the 3rd world is that the law doesn't prohibit the pirated market. So about 2 months ago I went out searching for the tv series on dvd but wasn't able to track them down. I eventually came across a stand with a Samurai X poster and immediately asked what they had on dvd concerning the anime. The guy said he only had 3 dvds: one of them was the motion picture, and the other two were titles OVA Remembranzas & Huellas del Pasado. When I asked about the tv series he told me that he had also looked for those episodes on dvd but could not find them either. He said that a dvd with the tv series doesn't exist to his knowledge. Even though I didn't find what I originally wanted I bought all three of the dvds he had for 30 soles!( aproximately 9 dollars) :o

Remembranzas is about Kenshi's past involving everything from when his guardians were killed by assasins to his training with Hiko and his legacy as Batusai the Slasher including how he got the X scar. Huellas del Pasado is probably the strangest piece of the anime I've ever seen. It 's like this rehash of some of the tv episodes such as the samurai who kidnaps Kori, casts a spell on her, and then tries to get Kenshi to turn back into Batusai by killing him; along with a battle between him and Tomoe's brother who wants vengeace for his sister's death and finally Kenshi's death by some sudden leprosy like disease  . Does anyone know what this all means?

wow!! i have never heard of kenshin dieing like that. the last episode that i have seen on the tv series (and i've actually had the dvd set for the tv series but i borrowed them so they wasn't mine  ) and it just ended when kouru and kenshin just hug and you get to see the whole gang as kenshin and kouru come back from a vacation like thing.

when i watched the 'fillers' i thought those people used rulers too. it was odd to see but yet the 'filler' episodes were odd. so it goes together in a way. i didnt' really see any connection b/w the 'filler' episodes and the others. i think they just did that to let us watchers know what they had done after the shishio sagas. i liked them in the end tho. i can't hate a kenshin episode no matter how off topic it might be..........

Actually, the episodes you are refering to about Kenshin's death are in the Reflections DVD. You can more than likely find it online. Reflections also shows scenes from the arc that should have been shown at the end of Rurouni Kenshin that involves Enishi (Tomoe's younger brother). The Enishi Arc is in the manga, but only in Japanese. It hasn't been translated yet. Damn filler episodes.
