Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid

Anyone check out the first four episodes?

Since I took this head on without watching the entire first series, I'm pretty much lost with the past enemies. But it doesn't really matter that much since the new season pretty much awesome! There's still some comedic "fumoffu" moments, but most of it is taken up with more mecha action and lots of military tactics in play (and quite of bit of gore here and there). And I have to say, the action scenes are ungodly fluid especially when those Chinese female twins are fighting; we can't expect anything less from Kyoto Animation who did an outstanding job with Fumoffu and Air TV.

And did I mention those twins, Yu Lan and Yu Fan, seriously kick ass when they're attacking, and they're lesbians? Yum! 8-)

I've seen the first three and so far I'm not too thrilled. Let me clear up my FMP history first. I watched Fumoffu first and then proceeded to watch the first season so I am actually accustomed to less comedy in the FMP world right now. Right now all I am seeing is mech fights and all this war jargand that I am not really feeling whatsoever. This is the main reason why I avoid most mecha anime. FMP season one was one of exceptions. For me there needs to be a good balance between seriousness and the war issues. Right now the comedic scenes seem out of place and the rest is overall dull. I think the main problem is that there isn't a lot of Chidori in it at the moment. Without her I don't think I would like the show because she makes the show interesting. Everyone else is either too dull or too uptight. As far as the sisters...I am sorry but I don't find lesbian traits among SISTERS great at all. They could have at least made them cousins like the Sailor Moon dub. Okay joke over. They are a strange pair but that last scene in episode three with one of the sisters did catch my attention. I actually wouldn't mind seeing more action scenes with them. It looks like I won't be getting that 4th episode tonight so I'll have to wait to see if the show will improve or if I will cut it.

I think of it this way. Anyone who wants their full comedy helping should check out Fumoffu. Anyone who yearns for more big mech battles that's wasn't found in the first series has the Second Raid as their payoff.

I was originally worried that the animation studio was gonna choke on providing exciting action sequences, but sweet jesus was I ever prompted to STFU. The fighting is gorgeous, the violence quite shocking, and the story so far pretty intense. I have no idea where this show is going, but I like what I see.

I am a bit thrown off though by the lack of comedy and especially Chidori. They've foreshadowed the possibility of bringing her into some conflict, but right now she's pretty pointless. I haven't watched the first season in years, never even bothered with Fumoffu (yet), so it's hard trying to remember what the heck even happened in the last story.

They really have the perfect villians in the show, I'm half cheering for them to cause massive amounts of carnage while simultaneous demanding they not hurt the protagonists I'm quite attached to. Tons of "Oh Yeah! Wait?!? No, don't you dare! Sweet!!! Nice counter!" moments from me.

I've stayed away from digisubs for a while now, but this show got me hooked again. I want it on DVD pronto, but I certainly don't want it licensed before I've had my fill... the usual conflict of interests since US release schedules are filled with far too much nap time.

Ah episode 6! This episode was pretty mellow, but the way the producers did the scene where Chidori was cutting Sousuke's hair gave those two a great amount of development; it was really cute! 8-)

And correct me if I'm wrong, but
did that Gates guy had sex with those twins, and then later masturbated when saw KITTENS?!

And did anyone see the dancing sloth from Air TV?

That very last scene was the best-est! I never saw that one coming.

lol I thought the same thing. Those two could had killed him in bed but they didn't. They could be planning an agenda involving him later. This is only my assumption (which I hope I'm wrong coz I don't like to imagine those two be with that arrogant lunatic.)

Finally, the plot from the novels starts moving. Now, if they would fast-forward to the bit where Chidori is running around nearly naked...

I really liked this episode. It took me back to FMP1 again. That haircut scene was also touching. However...
when they finally do something good they screw the whole damn thing up by making Sagara leave Chidori.

I'm glad that it will
eventually lead to the choice of him protecting her vs him doing his job.

It makes the show interesting but they could have waited an episode or two just to see how things would have progressed. Ah well. I hope it ends good.

About that crazy guy...
I didn't think he screwed the sisters. I just thought we was some freaky perv that was wanking off to kitties. Scary thing was that he wasn't alone. I though he was getting a little tootsie roll action from that other guy with him at first but that was cleared up. Someone needs to shoot him right now. Those sisters should have done it.

Pfftt they certainly look old enough not to count as lolicon. They don't necessarily look 18 but they don't look, like, 12 either. They are definitely the highlight of this season so far (although I also like that Mao has a big role so far). The action scenes with them are fucking awesome, some of the best I've seen in quite some time. I declare them to be the coolest anime characters ever designed. Ever. Ever.

I've only seen through episode 4 so far but it seems like those two are up to something, so hopefully they will turn out to be "good guys" so that the protagonists won't have to kill them. Need more episodes!

There is deffinatly a lack of the comedy aspec that made FMP good in the first place, but this is deffinatly what I wanted out of it in the first place.

In the first Season, there was some cool fights but the humor outwieghed the fighting, so that by the time the story got serious it almost felt out of place. Then when Fumoffu came out, it was purely to have more souske/chidori antics.

"The Second Raid" is LONG over due in my books, like i said, it is what i was hoping for from the first season.

Man, I basically watch the show for the Kaname/Sousake moments. More so if they're humourous. So Fumoffu rocked my socks! :)

I quite like all the war action as well though so I'm enjoying this series. I think of Fumoffu as a fun break, and to clear up some stories from the manga, and now we're back to 'real' FMP.

I'm valiantly resisting reading the books to know what happens. 8-)

I've watched every DVD of any FMP so far(The 1st season was my first anime ever) and I'm a huge fan. I liked the first season for the character development and budding (though a tug of war) relationship between Sosuke and Kaname. Sosuke had a lot to deal with. Fumoffu's great (seen through Ep. 6). Funny as all hell, and it develops Kaname and Sosuke's relationship even further. 2nd Raid is action packed as of the first 4 Eps. And if it goes the way I think it might, it's gonna get real good. I got clues from reading fan fictions.

Ah episode 7!

How many of you thought Chidori was about to be kidnapped in the apartment? I know I did; the way the producers created the atmosphere was really something.

Hearing all this stuff about FMP makes me wonder... "Is the original just as good?" I've seen FUMOFFU(sp?) and it's pretty funny and enjoyable, but I wanna see the original with the mechs. The twins have already coaxed me into seeing the Second Raid. 8-)
