They messed up with Rose's hair colour (check ep3 preview)...
Nooooooooooooooooo

Ok,seriously now,my impressions from ep2
While I liked that they showed a lot of stuff from manga in ep2 (Truth, the real examination with the Fuhrer),they also covered the tragic event of Trisha's death like something trivial.Same goes for the death of Winry's parents. No anger and cries, nothing.Come on guys, these were really strong scenes...

All in all,I'm now thinking of letting several eps go by and check it after 10 weeks or more so as to let the story progress a bit.We have Lior and Tucker before we advance to the main plot although Tucker is kinda getting mixed with Elysia's birth so....

Mhm, watched ep2... but I still don't know what to think about it.
IMO it's a good thing I forgot much about the first serie, since you're better off not comparing and just watching this as a new show.
I shall need a few eps more to make an opinion.
I dare you challenge me.

Hmm, In episode two, you really can feel the "review episode" vibe, what with the way they tried to cover so much ground so quickly. I enjoyed the new scenes, there's only one thing I had a beef with.

The state alchemist exam was fucking stupid.

You preform a fairly mundane transmution, the only notable thing being you used no transmutation circle, then you attack the Führer, makes some smartass comment about it being too easy to kill the Führer, Führer makes snarky comment back, Ed passes exam. Yeah...sure. The way the state millitary is depicted, Ed would've been executed quickly, possibly on the spot, for high treason or somesuch.

Also, I thought the Führer's sword skill was supposed to be a secret (owing to the fact he's a homunculus), not something he casually shows off in front of his staff, it's supposed to be a ceremonial sword ffs.

The Fuhrer's sword skill isn't supposed to be a secret. He's the head of a nation,he ought to be the best at something and he frequently uses his leet techniques in the manga even in public...
And about treason, manga's Bradley is rather easy-going to just kill someone for a comment like this.

As for my complaints about Trisha short screen-time,checking from manga chapter 21 again - the chapter with Elric's past - the directors followed exactly the manga. It only had 2 pages with Trisha and the exact same words about epidemic.

Am I the only one who was able to watch episode 2, get to the whole Trisha's funeral scene, and only think "Wow, that was short" before moving on and not caring?

We all know what happens anyway, so I don't see the big deal. And apparently it was pretty similar to the manga (It's been a while since I've read that chapter, I should find it again). Admittedly that scene probably works better in a comic than an animation, but still, it's not like we don't see Trisha's death in every FMA AMV anyway, we don't need to add more to that. ;p

I was kind of disappointed that Ed and Al's transmutation on their mom didn't look quite as epic, but Truth (Or whatever the heck it's called) made up for that.

qtf

The Lior episode looked like a bunch of 3 year-olds got ahold of the old script.

*tear*

Basque Gran wasn't as much of a pansy this time around, but boy did Scar's entrance lack spectacle. I now realize exactly to what extent I miss the English voice actors. Even if this new show were good, the lack of the classic voices I grew up with stunts my enjoyment. I especially miss Dameon Clarke. He literally made Scar's presence with his deep husky voice. Without it, Scar just isn't Scar.

They totally botched Tucker's story, but on the other hand, I didn't want to have to go through those emotions again. Plus, the bitch really died this time. I had always thought of him as a superfluous character, so I'm glad to know we won't be seeing him again.

Just read an interesting thought:

Spoiler for nonmanga readers,
In the opening, the guy in rags at the start by the gemmed up wall diagram is NOT ed.. it's ed's father, as a slave, hundreds of years ago when he first met 'father' in his flasked state.
What do you think of that? I think he looked enough like ed for it to be true.
