True, the Japanese voice actor for Kuwabara doesn't sound anywhere near as stupid as the one they found for the series dub.

Still, I don't think I'll ever get used to the idea of Kurama being voiced by a woman. Good grief, he sounds like a twelve-year-old.

And I like John Burgmeier's rendition of Kurama. He also did Shigure on Fruits Basket. :) That was fun.

"CHANGE IT TO THE JAP VERSION!! THE ENGLISH VERSION IS GAY"

They couldn't get the FUNi dub, because they were dubbed long before FUNi GOT YYH. It's not like it happened afterwards or anything.

You only found one fan!?! Well here's another, Yu YU hakusho's my life...My whole existance is to watch the team grow stronger, way beyond what a normal human is supposed to! plus there's the super hot, awesomly cold, extravagantly and splendidly missunderstood bodaciously distant red-eyed hunk who proudly stands at 4'7" not including his hair...[b]HIEI!!![b]

Though I do agree, in the moves why do they make hiei sound like a Brittish rocker from the eighties? I swear they need to re-do the movies...like they do other American movies...the hot men shouldn't be plaid by BRIT'S!!! I mean give me a break, most of the characters sound better in the funimation english or the oriental voice cast...I wonder if linda young is still alive???

Anyway's thanks I've seen poltrageist report but not the other one of whom I can never remember it's name...Is there anyone who can post it? thanks

Wow. You are into this show.

What I found so funny about Hiei's height is that my little brother was that exact same height, when he was nine years old.

Actually, I don't mind British accents so much, but it can be over done. (Kurama has a very light British accent in the FUNi dub. **sigh!** )

and Kuwabara's voice actor in english. wow. the guy's rele famous. lol he's in almost every anime done wit funimation =] (he does more than 3 voices in DBZ. wonder how he pulled that off ^^)

In my opinion, John Burmeier is my favorite voice actor. Chuck Huber is also awesome (hiei's voice) :)

The originals all surpass the dub.

Yusuke sounds like a punk KID.
Kuwabara can sound serious and comedic and it doesn't make me cringe.
Kurama has the typical "testicles haven't dropped at 15" syndrome most boys in anime have, but he still sounds good. Yoko Kurama has a good voice in Japanese (when he truly changes back)
Hiei sounds badass and you can believe it, and he's great at projecting attack names so that you really feel the hit comming on.

I gotta say I disagree. I do like the Japanese version, but I enjoy the show even more when I don't have to stare at the bottom of the screen reading the whole time and I think the dub is a great substitute. I think Kuwabara's voice is hilarious and that Joshua Cook does a great job protraying Yusuke. It's hard for me to sit through listening to Kurama in the original as if he was a 12 year old girl; even though it's common in anime, there is NO male regardless of how pretty, that sound like such a preteen girl in real life. The only problem I have with the dub is I think Yoko Kurama's voice sounds a bit to cheesily deep.

*nods* I'm pretty good at watching the show and reading the subtitles at the same time, but it does get a little difficult telling who's saying what sometimes.

Besides... *I* didn't have that soft a voice when I was twelve! And Kurama's supposed to be, what, fifteen? Not to mention male. @.@ I had pretty much the same reaction when I heard Yuki's voice in the original Japanese of Fruits Basket.

That's funny. You know it's because innitially youko Kurama had Hiei's voice actor in the original series? Yeah. Hiei has the deepest voice in the cast, so when Kurama went youko the first time he switched from Megumi to Hiiyama to show the extreme difference. I'm surprised they bothered to reflect that in the dub. Kurama's dub voice is already deep - there's no point making Youko's voice even deeper.

It's just...weird that most of the YYH fans in this thread dislike the Japanese voice acting. The music with the characters singing their own songs was half the selling point of the series and you miss out on all of that with the dub. Not to mention the ovas, which won't be dubbed any time soon. Just weird. Should I blame Cartoon Network? o.O

This alone tells me you have not actually WATCHED the sub save for a few episodes. I tell you, you should watch the entire series in Japanese. I guarentee that you will end up liking it a lot. The fact you cant tell voices apart tells me you haven't watched much of it.

Really? I thought Shigeru Nakahara did Youko's voice - up until Ogata switched back in the later sagas.

Ah, I could be wrong. It sounded like Hiei's voice, though. And I get confused with "Dark Side Stories" - I only hear Noboyuki singing in that song - but it's listed as being sung by Hiei and Youko Kurama. :P

Oh, I see where you're coming from. You're right, they actually do sound very similar.

I remember having to look at the lyrics to 'Dark Side Stories' to see who was who. The only reason I can tell them apart is because I did a vid to it a looong time ago, and it stuck :P

(I'd actually like to hear an Ogata/Hiyama duet version XD)
