I have decided to re-encode two of my videos from MPEG to XviD (no, I did not take the MPEGs themselves and re-encode them, silly). Course of Action (Tenchi Forever and Thief by Our Lady Peace) and Helluva Bad Day (Cowboy Bebop and the FLCL arrangement of Advice by The Pillows) have now been re-encoded as DivX compatible XviD avis. The advantage these new videos have over the original files?
(1) Smaller file size. HBD was originally 32 MB and CoA was originally 60 MB. Both are now a bit over 20 MB. Which is why I can host both of them at once. Yeah.
(2) Much improved image quality. The colors show up much better in HBD and, while CoA looked nice before since it was an absurdly high bitrate, the XviD encode is still much nicer looking. The color clarity is better and, since it's XviD, I can make the image screen bigger, which is always nice. Plus, for CoA, I hadn't resized the anamorphic footage before, so now it is sized properly and the character's don't look like Gumby on a bad day.
If you feel the need to leave a review, I'd appreciate it, especially if it's to tell me how much nicer they look compared to the old versions. ^_^
Thankee!!
