My first AMV uploaded to your servers. Video is "Sukeban Deka" set to Nightwish's "Planet Hell". Opinions appreciated; flames not accepted.

Hope the video is not too intense...it's effin' metal! NIGHTWISH RULES! \m/

^_^; Actually, the song is alot less intense than I remember it being.

And, um, the video was interlaced (that's where those gross horizontal lines come from. You can fix that).

As to how the video was... well, intensity only works if it's consistently well-synched to the music. This wasn't. Also, some of the visuals were more funny than intense, especially when combined with the music ("a million children fighting"). Not that funny though.

I don't really like this one. Sorry.

Also, to anyone who just up and hates this video (much like our friend bubblehead has), I have one simple piece of advice to bounce back at you...

Image

Praise and constructive criticism accepted. Snobbery, cynicism, elitism, and overall hateful douchebaggery, again, is not.

Anyone else?

What Bubblehead said was constructive criticism. :?

I'm afraid I know flaming, hateful, cynical elitism when I see it. You fail. :P

no one here has outright flamed your video. s/he said s/he didnt like, s/he listed reasons why s/he didnt like it. Thats his/her opinion.

if there had been no reason why s/he came out and talked bad about your video, then i would understand.

No, actually, it was constructive criticism. Apparently you just can't handle the fact that somebody really didn't like your video. He pointed out exactly what he didn't like and he didn't flame you in the least. Maybe you should try learning from that instead of tagging it "snobbery."

Your little "if you hate my video, just go kill yourself" reply, however, struck me as extremely lame and elitist.

Well, then I understand you're defending your friend.

But you see...just the way she came across with her critcism/opinion made her seem like a stuck-up little elitist bitch. But the point is really starting to get moot, and it seems I'm doing nothing more than reasoning with jackals.

Otherwise...there are better, more mature ways of criticising videos that aren't up to your highly-opinionated elitist standards than just making them seem like they're below you, and thus making you sound like a snobby little twat.

Do not let this sully your judgement on my further works or perhaps even myself as a person in real life (which you have yet to meet and likely may never).

Thread. Dead. Now.

I'll DL your vid and see if I agree. I don't know any of these people so there is no way you can say I'm defending a freind.

Let's take another look at it, then, shall we?

bubblehead wrote:^_^; Actually, the song is alot less intense than I remember it being.

A mere side comment that really has no bearing on the rest of the review.

bubblehead wrote:And, um, the video was interlaced (that's where those gross horizontal lines come from. You can fix that).

Pointing out a very specific problem that you can fix. And by the way, here's some links:
Interlaced editing vs. progressive editing
Restoring progressive frames (if you want to edit progressive)
Deinterlacing or IVTC after editing (if you edited interlaced)

bubblehead wrote:As to how the video was... well, intensity only works if it's consistently well-synched to the music. This wasn't.

A more general bit of advice, but still applicable.

bubblehead wrote:Also, some of the visuals were more funny than intense, especially when combined with the music ("a million children fighting"). Not that funny though.

Starts general, then gives a specific example, plus her opinion on how the humor worked or didn't. Believe me, anyone who makes a comedy is always going to have some people who think his/her attempt at comedy just wasn't funny, so it shouldn't be taken personally.

bubblehead wrote:I don't really like this one. Sorry.

See, no hatefulness here - she even apologized!

Summary: Bubblehead gave her opinion and pointed out some problem areas, and I think you will find that you're the only one here who thinks she did so in a flaming manner. Where did you get "hateful douchebaggery" from again? I'm not seeing it.

NemoSperry wrote:But you see...just the way she came across with her critcism/opinion made her seem like a stuck-up little elitist bitch.

No it didn't! What did you expect "constructive criticism" to sound like?

NemoSperry wrote:Otherwise...there are better, more mature ways of criticising videos that aren't up to your highly-opinionated elitist standards than just making them seem like they're below you, and thus making you sound like a snobby little twat.

So what kind of criticism would be mature enough for you?

You're making it sound like anyone who doesn't like your video is "elitist".

And again, you're pretty much the only one here who thinks that Bubblehead's post made her sound snobby.

oh ad while I'm waiting for the vid to DL, let me point out that you are the one flaming her.

Opinions appreciated; flames not accepted.

All she did was give her opinion. Not all opinions are good. Face it. It was your first vid, if you cannot handle people's honest opinions, please don't bother uploading and asking for them.

Also, why should it matter if the person giving their opinion has vids up? Or even CREATES AMVs? You don't have to be an artist to know what is good art and what it bad art. And face it, some art is just boring.

___

Okay, DLed the Vid. Here's my OPINIONS and things I noticed that could be done to improve the video. And yes, I DO make AMV's. I'm on a panel at a con giving advice on how to make good AMV's. So yeah, I know what I'm talking about.

-Interalacing, like bubblehead mentioned, needs to be fixed and it can easily be done. As it is..it's an eyesore and greatly dtreacts from the video.

-You need more cuts. The beginning was rather nice, but then the music stayed at the same pace but the cuts got longer. It just did not suit it and lost the entire mood of the work.

-For such a large filesize, I expected better quality. It was quite pixilated almost throughout the video.

-It had a very strong opening with descent timing.

-the music quality could have been much better. If you used an MP3, DON'T, if you ripped it yourself, try it again, it sounded muffled 0.o

-I've never seen the show but I'm a bit interested now ^^

-I think if you fised your attitude and outlook on this community, there are plenty of people that would be willing to help you to become a great editor. I can see the talant there, you just need to mature and let it cultivate. Noone's first vid is all that great ^^ I won't even host mine here. (gah Hellsing and Metallica >< it was sooo bad!)

take a look at these guides before you start your next project. They will help the problems addressed here.

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/PhadeGuide/ - Phades guide to good AMVs
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/ - All things audio and video

Good luck with your next!

oh and um...no thanks...I don't care for trains.[/url]
