[BC 2013] Into The Labyrinth

This is my entry for Big Contest 2013. It was originally planned for Akross, but I failed the deadline terribly. So here I am.
I tried to make something with a true framerate of 60 FPS. Turned out it was a pretty ambitious goal.
But enough of me, tell me what you think :)

It's ok man, even for the BC I consider this one special

The fact that I liked from the video was the 60fps part. Although in the second part of the video, it suddenly falls in intensity, it gets back to normal after a certain part. Like I said in the past, it seems you knew what you wanted to do with the video so good job man

I must tell you the truth, this amv I'm looking at me yesterday because I know you do not say if I like it or not, at some points I thought, "That's cool" while others said "What am I looking"
One thing that you could avoid, in my opinion, and put all that twitch (after a bit out of place), the internal synch I loved it especially at the end.
As it is a good idea, especially different from the usual on this series.
I will continue to look for the good, maybe will be part of those types of amv that at first sight I don't like then after a while they begin to appreciate :bear:

You definitely could have shrunk this in length to a good 2-3 solid minutes instead of 5 minutes with parts that were lacking a lot. You'd have some cool beat sync that had a ton of impact then other parts, like 4:20 and 4:27, were just kinda....weak. The whole twitch deal was really unnecessary too, that ruined the video a lot for me. Then in the second half you added this really pixel-y effect which is hard to pull off because you can make it look like your video quality went to shit (which it looked like it did), and the TV lines too. You stacked effect over effect and it didn't mesh well at all. I've never seen any of your vids before this so I'll just assume that you were experimenting with lots of different stuff, but overall you could have stuck with just your color corrections, your shakes, and your cool-looking Twixtor plug-in and it would have been great. It's really a cool vid at its core, but a few things just needed to go.

And again, the Twixtor thing is DOPE. o__o I never knew a thing like that existed. Totally gonna find that tonight and try it out!

Prepare yourself for a lot of artifacts with Twixtor. Takes a lot of time and only works the way I used it when you remove the duplicate frames in the animation :asd:

Considering this is your first AMV, it's not without shortfalls but its an outstanding effort and one of the best first-timer AMVs i've seen.

Best use of 60fps i've seen, apart from that not my style of clip but as a first amv it's really good.

A candidate for best first amv for the next VCAs :ying:
I agree with the comments above, maybe too much rgb twitch and effects in general, without them it would have been much better.
Also, I dunno how to use the twixtor plugin so I'm asking: when you used it in some parts the clip became kinda "liquid"...can you fix it? or you cannot do anything about it? cause it's a bit distracting for me :nose:
Anyway, great synch, mood and flow so ...a very enjoyable amv!

That means that the plugin had a hard time figuring out what happens between two frames. It happens especially when characters move really fast (turning charakters are a nightmare). It is fixable in some cases, but it is really time-consuming. It is necessary to mask out every moving object seperately. I did it in many shots, but I couldn't do everything. Isn't exactly fun, you know :D Maybe I'll spend more time with it next time, I'll see...

That 60fps looks so impressive.
Awesome video... appart from all that repetitive twitch and the random scenes i am in love with this entry.
Good luck in the contest, and keep it up the good work :D :D

Pretty slick work. This is the first AMV that has used 60 fps to make it actually look good, especially with those facial expressions at the beginning. Rather than using Twixtor as a novelty and just tossing it on video as an afterthought like most others I have seen. As for nitpicking, people have pretty much covered what could be improved, but I'd like to add that the lurking texture background gets a bit obnoxious since it sits in the background of the video the whole time. Otherwise good stuff here.

BTW, as a fan of GMVs I checked out some of the videos on your youtube channel and let me say nice work on those too. I know you're "new" to AMVs but you're obviously not new to video editing. :P

Yeah, you're probably right. When I watched my render on my shitty monitor (I've got a awesome and a horrible one) I couldn't see the texture at all. Out of fear I pushed it until it was barely visible on that screen. I'll watch out next time.

You seem to like my GMVs better than I do :D

Gotta take this chance to tell you personally how awesome "The Nightmagi Cometh" is. Honestly, that shit is super über cool.

Well, since you've been getting way too much nitpicking and "this is how I would have done it" comments, I'm going to stop and say fucking fantastic job. Yes, there is some warping, it's a bit long, and certain effects are used quite a bit but I adore this video. The length didn't bug me, the warping was fine, and overall the effects I felt fit for the most part. Normally I'm one to stop by and drop some criticism but since that's all you've really been getting I'm going to gush for a bit.

Overall you did something that so far no one else, including Nostromo, has been able to do and that's to create a video using 60fps that I actually enjoy. I adore the way you transformed the footage into something that looks less like an anime and more like a cell shaded video game. It's a look and style I've never really seen before and while it felt weird to look at when I first started watching, it was a good kind of weird that only continued to get better and better.

I'm seriously looking forward to both GMVs and AMVs from you in the future.
